New Southern Bus Terminal to Be Launched Next Month

The Transport Company is preparing to commence services from the new southern bus terminal on Boromratchachonnanee road on November 1, emphasizing passengers' convenience and safety and hoping to reach airport standards. :D*Personally, I would have shot for higher standards.*

President of the Transport Company, Wuthichart Kalayanamit, says the construction of the new southern bus terminal on Boromratchachonnanee road is complete and all significant equipments have already been moved there.

Wuthichart adds that the new southern bus terminal will be opened for public services on November 1.

He adds that initially, the Transport Company will begin services for long travel routes from Bangkok to at least Chumporn Province.

Services for shorter routes will commence on November 15.

As for destinations of less than 200 kilometers from Bangkok, the Transport Company will begin services before December 3.

The construction project of the new southern bus terminal have been implemented by the private sector, aiming to develop and improve bus terminals nationwide under the idea of the "Safety Zone."

The project is aimed to improve bus terminals across the country and bring them to airport standards, to ensure passengers' safety as only passengers will be allowed to enter platforms at the bus terminal.

Closed-circuit television cameras have been installed throughout the new southern bus terminal and passengers will be allowed to enter bus platforms 15 minutes before the departure time, in order to reduce congestion around the platform areas.

Moreover, the new southern bus terminal also provides a large car park on more than 37 rai of land.

Asked about the traffic congestion, the president of the Transport Company says the company is preparing to arrange traffic around the area by separating the entrance and the exit of compound in order to lessen traffic jams in front of the terminal during rush hour.

and like with the airport - some 10 month delay over the proposed opening. For the last half year it's a street market there - mainly food.

Now we have to wait if the concourse concrete is strong enough or would they have to move back some bus routes to the old southern terminal.

in any case - a good news for those travelling south and west

Hua Hin and Cha Am are more than 200 km, even from the old southern bus terminal. Yet they aren't as far south as Champhun/Chomphon. I wonder when the Hua Hin route will change?

The old terminal was poorly located for onward travel after arriving in BKK. How well located is the new terminal for going into downtown BKK?

the new southern terminal is some 5 km west of the old one, close to the Outer Western Ring Rd (Wogwan Rob Nok) - public buses serving the old one will be passing by the new one (177, 388, 515, 516 and bus to the new airport)

This is good news, the old one was AWFUL...hope the taxi drivers get up to speed, wouldn't want to get taken 5km east of where I'm supposed to go :o

At quick glance seems to be near-identical to Mor-chit station--mainly same kind of layout (Northern Bus Terminal). Same architect & construction firm?

On a sour note, I have misgivings about the plan to not allow people onto the platforms until 15 minutes before departure. I think all it will do will be to move the stampede from the bus door to the gate access door. :o

ALSO ALL buslines currently ENDing at the Sai Thai (like 511, 30, 507, 67) will be EXtended to the new terminal. Thus, if you use bus all the way, it simply means: sit 5 mins longer in the citybus and hopefully 5 mins less in the countrybus.

In fact currently the trick is NOT to wait til bus has finally arived at terminal 9the old 1), but get off when anyone does: a fair choice of many more buses and also no taxi-hassle,s for which SaiThai has always been renowned.

Whre's the red circle? what's in the middle of the picture? INdeed, where is the middle? It all depends on the magnification that was set.
