British National Dies from Overdosing

We rushed to the scene of View Talay Condo 1 at approximately half past midnight on 12th October when we heard that a British man was found dead.

We entered his room on the 14th floor to find him on the bed naked and covered with a blanket. His girlfriend was nearby in a very shocked condition and was under the influence of a drug of some kind since she could not give any clear statement to the police.

A number of tablets were found such as anti-depressant pills, valium and Zanex sleeping pills.

The police inspected the room to find that the deceased is 26 year old David Robert Clarke from the UK.

Police officers believe the deceased must have died from accidentally overdosing the anti-depressant pills. His girlfriend, 22 year old Camille Lucinda Reynolds, also from Britain, was still under the influence from taking them as well.

The police have sent Mr. Clarke’s body for autopsy at the Police Institute of Forensic Laboratory in Bangkok and the British Embassy has been contacted. As for Miss Reynolds; she was taken to the hospital to sober up and will then be taken to the police station for more questioning to find out what happened.

OD on anti-depressants, does that mean one would go out on a happy note ?. Sad, agreed, but I think one would most likely know the risk u take ( besides maybe being imprisoned ) when u do stuff like this.

Sorry, I feel sorry for people who lost their lives for other reasons ( even suicide i.e. depressed and jumping off a bridge), but find it hard to find sympathy for such silly cases. ( teenager who did this, maybe, but at the ripe age of 26 !! )

OMG, this is truly sobering and oh so frightening, much more so to me because I have been reliant on different cocktails of said pharmaceuticals to just to sleep on and off over the past few years. I have NEVER understood why anyone would want to take such <deleted> if there is no medical/clinical reason to. Honestly, it contiues to astound me that someone would choose to take these drugs just to get *high*. When I do consume them, even when I first started out, I've never felt any sense of joy/happiness, however fleeting, not to mention the horrible aftereffects that could sometimes rival that of the worst alcohol-induced hangover.

After reading this though, I'm going to be even more careful with the darn pills.

Poor sod. :o

Anytime a life is lost unnecessarily, especially that of a young person, it's very sad. My condolences to family and friends.

Part of the problem is that pharmaceutical drugs and alcohol are legal thanks to powerful lobbyists and governments that are run by big business, so these unfortunate young people would not be imprisoned for possessing them. However, they could be imprisoned for possessing a bit of marihoochi (ganga). Now, I've never heard of anybody overdosing from ganja, beating their spouse under the influence of it, or falling victim to many of the other numerous health and social problems associated with booze and pills. So, can anybody give a good reason why a much less harmful substance like ganja, which also has many practical and medical uses be outlawed when booze and some types of pills, which are clearly dangerous substances are legal?

Gangga user maybe ? :o

Tend to agree, my gut feeling is that the laws on the stuff are over the top compared to booze and the influence it can have on society too. Probably took booze 400 years to become legal, so ganga might have some time to go

Condolences my arse. The gene pool is stronger. Waste of skin the both of them. Bite me.

I'm sorry but that is a disgusting attitude... what if his parents were to read this? Who made you judge, jury and executioner anyway? :o:D:D

Probably the sort of parents that are so disconnected from their offspring that they either can't tell that they are habitual drug users or don't give a toss if they are; maybe even regular marijuana users themselves. I can see them giving local news interviews now, all red-eyed and soggy hankies claiming their kids were the most wonderful, happy and loved pair that ever walked.

I guess I can sort of see how you might interpret my post to mean that (although such an extreme step would obviously be irrational).

The main point I was eluding to is the absurdity of criminalizing the possession of a relatively harmless substance like ganja when other more physically, mentally, and socially damaging substances like alcohol and pharmaceuticals are legal. Look at the situation here in Thailand where very little appears to be done to suppress drinking and driving, but possession of a couple of grams of ganja can land you in jail and saddle you with a criminal record that will likely have a negative impact on you for the rest of your life. I just don't see the logic. I am not encouraging or condoning the use of any of these substances, but I find it hard to understand how the legal situation makes any sense.

As I stated in my original post, people don't OD on ganja. Perhaps if it was available to the public as openly and legally as booze and pills are, this couple may have opted to use it instead. Here we find a situation where the laws make people afraid to choose a safer method of getting buzzed (when or if they feel the need). Instead they push them to choose more dangerous alternatives that the lawmakers have approved (illogically IMO).

Haha true but I've taken my fair share and have never felt even slight euphoric. :D They just knock me out flat. :o Doubt one can find happiness in a pill regardless of what they say anyway. :bah:

Xanax is truly evil stuff (more so than the rest of the benzos) and I remember being so reliant on it after just one month on the crap and had the worst withdrawal shakes and heart palpitations when I decided to go off it completely; at one point during the many sleepless nights I even thought I was going to die at the rate that my heart was beating. :bah: The big pharmaceutical boys will always be pushing the next big thing in the legalized drug world because their patents on previous wonder-drug discoveries don't last forever and other smaller companies are churning out generics faster than they can come up with new ones, that are much much cheaper and thus putting a dent in their already HUGE profits. Such drugs are SO cheap to manufacture (like literally a few cents for each tablet. Talked to a sales rep and was astounded at the cost price AND the special price for doctors who order MORE than the minimum), take for example Valium (Diazepam) which costs $1usd per pill where I live but the generic version can be gotten for less than half that and the last time I checked there were almost a dozen different generic brands for diazepam. Anyway, any sedative under the benzodiazepam family wreaks havoc on your central nervous system and I suspect are killing your brain cells insidiously and gradually, which probably explains why I can never remember where I put something even though I was just using it 10 minutes ago. :o:D I was quite surprised when I googled a few different sedatives and saw that you can actually order them without a prescription these days. Gee, and I remember how I had to beg the good doc just to prescribe me a two week supply. ;) I wonder if multi-billion dollar Pfizer (creator of the vile Xanax but useful Viagra) knows how easy it is to get a hold of their best-selling babies. Or maybe they even have a hand in it. :D

Sorry for your loss Camille and for your pain currently. When you start to get over it all you might want to think about why a person of your age needs to take Xanax.

I never wanted tgo to Thailand i wanted to go somewhere else at first but decided that we would go there and i was really looking forward to it i really was, i was put on sleeping tablets in the Uk, my boyfriend and his friend had been to Pattaya twice before this year and they told me about the tablets but told me to only take half of one which is what i did obviously knocking me and not knowing what happened to him, the reason i couldnt speak propably was cuz i was in shock and and crying, why do some <deleted> think that just because your histerical ur obviously on drugs what small minded people are there, i wish people would give there opinions because really only I no the police have covered everythin and the bitch who owned the room fabricated everythin before people put there opinions out there they should really no the truth im balming anyone cuz i would have probably thought the same but it has taught me a great lot and i hope it teaches you the same.

I am Camille Lucinda Reynolds you really need to shut the fuc_k up you stupid little prick i am so angry you seem to have an opinion Dave never took any sleeping tablets it was only me saying that he should really know better at the age of 26 what is that suppose to mean?

The thai government have lied about everything saying blood circulation and resperation problems which i know is a lie cuz if someone is gasping for breath there whole body wud gasp even on sleeping tablets i am a very light sleeper so i know that is <deleted> but at least now it is in the hands of the British GOVERNMENT.

If you have anythin to say dont email me through this piece of shit site email me: [email protected]

Few Points

1. No body deserves to die through their own stupidity or otherwise.

2. I would be interested to learn "the Truth" since Dave did not take the tablets . There are tons of expats / tourists who die each year, some natural causes, some doing natural causes, even doing drugs - quite openly reported. Had one acquaintance die last month ( Alchoholic). Sad, but every one knew it was on the cards. Whats makes this case so important that there has to be a JFK style cover up ? If it was not AD's and alcohol, what is then the cause of death according to ur self or the "British Government".

When was alcohol ever illegal?

1900 to 1948 in Prince Edward Island, and for shorter periods in other locations in Canada

1914 to 1925 in Russia and the Soviet Union

1915 to 1922 in Iceland (though beer was still prohibited until 1989)

1916 to 1927 in Norway (wine and beer also included in 1917)

1919 in Hungary (in the Hungarian Soviet Republic, March 21 to August 1; called szesztilalom)

1919 to 1932 in Finland (called kieltolaki)

1920 to 1933 in the United States

sorry for your loss camille.

you say you was the only one to take xanex......was there really anti depressants and valium there too or is this <deleted>.

people are interested in this sad demise because he was so young,we are used to the oldies, sick and skint people dying out here.

im afraid anything on the news here or anywhere is never the whole truth but thats the only thing people have to go by so dont be too upset with people as it is human nature to speculate when facts are not present.

also i think some people are worried as a lot of people here take valium after a heavy drinkin session so in one way they are wanting to know the truth as could happen to them if it happened to your fella.

did he have a history of any illnesses, heart problems etc that you knew of? was he extremely drunk that night and could have taken something to sleep as well without you knowing.also you say you are a light sleeper.....maybe but isnt that the whole point of sleeping tablets....they knock you out and you dont know stuff til you wake up,so you may think you was only in a light sleep.

also as many of us know thailand has a variety of drugs on offer so when someone dies so young here or anywhere the first thing anyone thinks is drug overdose.i wish you all the best and hope the real truth comes out for you as it is a tragedy for your man to die so young.dont get too angry with some of the posters comments as normally they do not expect someone involved in the case to read them...otherwise im sure they would have been more sensitive in there comments.i hope anyway.take care

Hello everyone im sorry i get so irrate its just i hate people being nasty about my boyfriend and about me when they dont know us, and yes the Thai government did cover it up, it was Dave's inquest yesterday and thay found methadone in his system and everyone knows that methadone is for heroin addicts but if your a normal person and take it, it will kill you straight away but Dave and i both new this so i know he wouldnt of taken it, all i know is i went to sleep he gave me a kiss and a cuddle lay down with me and said goodnight and he told me he loved me which im glad we got to do because most people dont get that chance to tell the partner how much they love them, i woke up to find the nightmare but when i looked on the side there was a pad of Tesco paper in english and in Thai "Tesco" and found a note from Dave saying "Cor sleep be back in ten mins love ya" so i reakon while he was out he was spiked, i even spoke to a psychic and she said she felt he was spiked, there were no other drugs found in his system and there were no illigal drugs in my system, i hope this clears a few things up.

Thank you for listening to me.
