You have to be kidding if you think someone should pay 500 baht to sit and listen to someone pitch their services. Better you offer everyone that will sit through the entire program 500 baht for attending.

Actually we had a couple hundred expat investors out for a seminar in Pattaya (with little advanced notice and marketing). That seminar was a success, as we had many happy and informed attendees tell us so afterwards.

The purpose is not to peddle products, but rather to help investors learn how to invest without relying on their brokers who often promote speculative trading, a big problem in the SET.

Attendence is not compulsory, so if 500 baht sounds like a lot to you, please dont come.

I believe Thaistocks is a well established Investment Advisor but maybe they need some assistance on Marketing this type of Seminar.

Even for an entrance fee of only Baht 500.- you will need to give MUCH more detail about what benefits attendees can expect to take away from the meeting.

Simply saying:

"Paul Renaud of Thaistocks.com will be presenting a speech focusing on the fundamental side of investing on the Thai stock market. Michael Judge of Trade-Vizion.com will be discussing the technical aspects of investing in the SET"

is FAR too vague and wooly to attract most people I would think!

Also of course you are not doing this simply to earrn Baht 500- from each attendee, clearly your purpose is to attract at least some of them as Clients or at the minimum as subscribers to your Newsletter - the attendees would realise this too.

I suggest the smartest approach would be to invite interested people to attend for free and write off the whole cost of the thing as Promotional Expenses or something similar - you are not offereing free food or drink so the only people who will attend would be those who are genuinely interested and have the funds to invest. To these people Baht 500.- is nothing, however their thoughts may well run on the lines "if these guys know so much about Investing, why do they need to charge me a paltry Baht 500.- to listen to them?"

That's what I'm thinking right now!

Thanks for the comments. Sometimes criticism is hard to take, but at least it is constructive criticism. But going back to my first post, in the very first paragraph it states that we are only an invited guest speaker at this seminar. We don't have a say in the admission price of 500 baht, we also don't get a cut of admission proceeds.

We were originally told that 500 baht would be charged so that people would not think the seminar is just a 3-4 hour 'infomercial' for investment products. Specific investment ideas and strategies will be discussed and shared, so at least people would be receiving value for their 500 baht. This is what we were told, not necessarily what we agree with.

On another note, yes there will be refreshments during the break, and we are not an investment advisor, but rather an independent electronic publisher of investment views.

If Nathan said admission was FREE then I would be even more sceptical in so much as "they just want to get you in front of them so they can pitch you" It also means that if you are willing to spend the 500 baht then you want to get your money's worth from the speaker.

IMHO he is in "No Win" situation If they don't charge then its a scam and if they do charge its a rip-off, some firms ARE genuine, I consider myself to have been a reasonably astute businessman when I worked, there are always companies who want to sell you stuff you don't need or want. I always work on the premise of "Buyer Beware" if you dont like what you are hearing nobody is going to beat you over the head with a club to buy the product are they?

I can see nothing wrong with this post, if people are prepared to part with 500 baht then let them. If they ar interested in investing they have money anyway and as Dave Thailand said 500 baht is nothing to him and the same goes for the majority of us who use this site.

At least they are not offering a bottle of whisky, a rental for a day or a box of chocs just for showing up, hw many of you have fallen for that old Timeshare scam in the past???

A small entrance fee contributes to the 'we-feeling' of the attendants.

Paying the fee unites them in the sense of 'we' payed an entrance fee.

A meeting in a nice hotel is good for the reflection on the own ego.

An amount of money in the backpocket and the company of others with a similar amount in the backpocket.

Average age between 40 and 45 (no old foxes of institutional investors and hardly anybody above 50 would look for an uncertain long term investment instead of consolidatiing his or her assets).

There is an element of entertainment in an enterprise like this, combined with a satisfactory ego-boosting.

It is rather logic to me that a small fee will be asked.

There is one question however:

I have the impression that the theme of the meeting is the 'why and how' of investment in Thailand.

Are also speakers invited who represent the 'why not' opinion?

Hey Nathan,

Lots of big investors in Nigeria, all you have to do is send them your bank account data along with your account number and they will deposit lots of $$$ directly into your account. If you like I'm sure one of the other members here have their contact info and would pass it to you just for your asking. :o
