Villagers denounce militants in Narathiwat province

Saturday 27 October 2007

NARATHIWAT, Oct 26 (TNA) -- More than 1,500 local residents in this troubled southern province on Friday gathered in front of a district office and denounced armed militants who had brutally shot dead three persons earlier this week.

Holding placards, the villagers gathered in front of the Rangae district office and denounced insurgents who they said had killed innocent people almost every day, making a special example of the killings of a father, and his young son and daughter on Tuesday.

The demonstrators also told Rangae district officer that they could no longer tolerate brutal killings by the armed terrorists and that they would cooperate with officials in suppressing the militants with an aim to restore peace in the deep South.
