Asus Eee

Featured Replies

The Asus Eee laptop PC is in Taiwan and is now also being sold in North America. The price in U.S. and CDN $ is $399. It's supposed to be in stores before Christmas in Australia at AUS $499. The rest of Asia (I don't know if Thailand is included) sometime before the end of this year.

A bit of a disappointment since the original price was supposed to be U.S. $200.

I suppose one could always say where are you going to get a lightweight 2 lb. laptop with full keyboard for the above price. That's about the only plus I can see.

I am looking forward to possibly purchasing one of these machines.

The small lightweight fully XP compatible device at a price that is

less than a third of a small notebook [typically 60K thb] would be

perfect for me as a teacher carry to work each day.

Add a USB HD of 250GB for 2500 thb and you have a nice basic platform.

I fear Thai duty taxes will raise the price too high though. Hope not.

It looks like a neat little machine. The problem with the price is that here in the UK you can get a basic laptop (Celeron 1.73GHz, 1GBG, 40GB, Vista Home Premium, wi-fi and a 13" screen) for 21,000bt.

True, but most of these "other" basic laptops probably weight around 5 - 6+ lbs (over 2.3 kilos).

Most of the "light weight" laptop PC's I've seen listed are selling for well over $1000 U.S., and in many cases at the $2000+ mark.

Personally, I think I'll wait until 2008, and see if prices for the Asus come down, "or" another competitor enters the ring.

Already here in Canada, I've seen a couple of dealers trying to price gouge the Asus Eee - $444 +

Wow! A MSI laptop for 8,888 baht .. including a DVD writer and Wireless .... !
