Tone Deaf And Failed F.l.a.t.

In the military, my hearing was tested and it was determined that i was tone deaf and they gave me another test called the Foreign Language Aptitude Test [FLAT] that gives you a fictitional language to study then tests your aptitude for learning a foreign language.

But, i've spent time in latin american countries and picked up spanish easily, and picked up conversational tagalog in the philippines easily.

Now i've been living full time in LOS for 7+ yrs and still haven't picked up even the most basic Thai.

Thai wifwe will coach me with a new thai word and i'll repeat it several times then unless i use it in 5 minutes, i forget it. Thank Buddah that her english is good!!

It is the hardest language for me to understand and speak, with all the tones and get chastized by thai speaking foreigners as well as thais.

Makes me wonder if there are any thais that are tone deaf and how do they function??

So, please give us hearing impaired a break!!
