I'm glad this movie's got "THe Best Thai Film Award for 2007", I congratulate everyone involved in the making of this picture and I wish it has also a very successful international release.

B2S in Central Silom Complex and in Robinson Silom both have it but seem determined not to sell it - inquiries at both stores were met with "not have" but after repeated requests to check they eventually found it was in stock at 450 Baht with no special price but again after repeated requests to check they eventually found out that the price was actually 279 Baht

maybe instead of being a difficult falung I should have been more Thai about it and left their precious stock to quietly disintegrate in their storeroom!

Hi :o

Since 11:45 today i am now proud owner of one "Rak Haeng Siam" genuine DVD "special Edition", it's "package" apparently serving as a notebook too (or contains pictures, i don't know as i did not (and will not!) open that package). I will keep it as a "collector's item" since i have seen the normal theater version in the cinema (WITH subtitles!) before.

I have also confirmed (and double checked it TWICE) that i have an open order/reservation for at least one "Limited Edition Director's Cut 4-Disc Set". The reason i was so "german" on checking is because once i received my DVD i asked the girl there to check my order for the other one, and she said "can not order, it sold out". I almost went ballistic! Luckily just then my handsome sales guy from before showed up (the shop had only just opened at 11:40) and he checked it out in the computer - as if by magic there was my "shop reservation" from last week and even my online-order for which i still have no confirmation or anything from Boomerang.

Then that guy explained to me that indeed the "limited edition" is completely sold out as THEY WILL ONLY PRODUCE 1,000 OF THEM!! And then he asked me, since i have TWO orders there, to cancel one? No way, i said, if there is any chance at all to get them both, i happily will pay for two and take them both :D He then said that he will try to get my online-order sorted out so that i can indeed pick up TWO sets at the shop, he would call me again the moment they become available, which could be delayed again but as of yet it still looks like March 7th. So yeah, that version will not be available at shops at all, and my thanks go out to "lothda" for making me aware of the pre-ordering, Boomerang and the DVD itself :D

About the price, yes it is only 279 Baht for the "regular" version that is now available, no fuss and no questions, the girl told me that right away after i asked the price. There was a huge stack of them reserved, i guess a good 30 to 40, each one with a sticker with name and order number on it, printed by computer! They seem to have their act pretty well together there at Boomerang, which sadly is SO not the case with their online-ordering system.

With kind regards......

Again, you're very welcome and I'm happy that everything seems to work out now. I hope everybody got their copy. For the later Limited Edition, I have heard that the number produced may be 1500 or 2000 and even that there may be more made if demand is high. There will be a numbered Limited Edition for sure (e.g. numbered "1234 of 2000"). Remember that this is Thailand, so nothing is written in stone, not even about strictly limited editions. However the elaborate packaging might be self-limiting - the wooden toy especially might be more expensive to produce after the initial run.

Cheers!

Hi,

After reading through the posts I go myself the DVD at Boomerang in Central Bang Na yesterday

It is composed of a few high quality fotos some diary type pages and the DVD. The cover is red with the 4 main stars on the front

I do not see any 'numbers'

One more thik it is exclusively in Thai with Thai subtitles as option

I have tried to work out from the prosts where I could get a version with subtitles and/or an english version but cannot.

Can anyone tellme where they are available ?

Thanks

Hi :o

You can NOT. It is not released with English subtitles, at least not YET and HERE. Sad but true, an ongoing trend - Thai movies, shown in theaters WITH subtitles, appear WITHOUT them on DVD.

The latest Khatoey comedy even shows in the theaters without subs - i would have loved to watch it but couldn't find ANY theater that shows it with subs, so - no business from me.

As to "numbers", the version of the DVD that is already released is the "standard" version (even tough it says on the package "Special Edition"), the (most likely indeed numbered) one will be released on 7th of March, according to the Boomerang guy only 1,000 going to be made and they are all already reserved. It is a set containing no less than FOUR discs, a photo set and the wooden doll which plays a central role in the movie.

With best regards....

Would there be a 'copy' VCD with the subtitles sold somewhere ?

Dear all, sorry to report that the release date for the Limited Edition Director's Cut DVD set has been changed again, this time to March 15. Sorry to Krub, there are no subtitled versions available at all. However I think that the fact that the movie won the Thai equivalent of the Oscars (Best Thai Film of 2007), the chance for an English subtitled release (in the US or the UK) has increased.

Meanwhile here are two screen caps from the DVD that I hope you will enjoy.

Hi :o

May i ask where you always get this "insider information" from?? As i still haven't heard from Boomerang yet was hoping for a release, as planned, on the 7th.... i can't wait to get that final piece for my collection :D

About the subs i think there is a valid chance of us seeing "fan subs" soon as the film has already started to hit the torrent sites...... the regular version, that is. If i see a version WITH subs torrented somewhere i'll go and grab it - owning the DVD and the VCD already (and also having seen it in the theater and having the ticket to prove it) plus having the second DVD on order, i wonder who would want to try to stop me from downloading it? Copyright or not.

Didn't it also get the "Oscar equivalent" for "Best Director" as well? I know it got two or three of them.

With best regards.....

Hello again, nothing special about my info source, just the Boomerang website. The DVD is already on one torrent site, but without subtitles and people asking for them. Of course it's a reduced quality version, compressed to fit on a single layer DVD-R . My boyfriend and I are thinking of doing the subtitles for the Director's Cut. That would be really hard work - and extremely hard work if that version doesn't even have Thai subtitles! We'll see.

As an aside, you wouldn't have to go to the extreme to download the whole DVD just to get the subtitles. There is at least one site that specializes in subtitle tracks. You could just get the subtitles and combine them with a copy of your existing DVD - if you have the appropriate software.

And you're right, it won the Best Director award as well.

I'll keep you all up-to-date about further developments :o

Dear PeaceBlondie :o

I don't want to violate any rules, hence my question - is it still considered "an illegal copy" if i download a movie of which i already own (as in bought and paid for) EVERY AVAILABLE ORIGINAL version?

Such as this one - so far i own the genuine, original, VCD, DVD and both music CD albums that were released. The second DVD version (director's cut) is not yet released but i have a firm and confirmed order for it, i will get it and pay for it the day it is released.

So if i would download the SAME movie yet again only to obtain the (fan-created!) subtitles, would that still be "illegal"? As the studio/producer does not produce the subtitles, hence i can't buy them even tough i very much want to.......

What would the forum rules say in such case? Please advice..... Thanks in advance :D

Hi everybody, to nobody's surprise (at least not mine) the release date for the Limited Edition Director's Cut DVD set has been postponed again, this time to March 28 (this year :o ). Expect further delays...

Posted

Hi :o

I am wondering... why do they keep delaying as it's already sold out anyway?? It can't be that difficult to produce a 1.000 DVD's and a 1.000 of those wooden dolls?

Best regards....

Hi, I just wanted to tell you that if you decide to start the project of creating the English subtitles... I'll be happy to contribute whatever time and expertise I have available to the project, for free, of course...

My Thai b/f and I watched the standard release on DVD over the last couple days... and having seen the movie in the theaters, with subtitles... this is like an exercise in frustration, for this NON-THAI-Speaking farang.

AND my Thai b/f speaks so little English that any and all repeated attempts to pause the movie and ask him "What did they say" were met by words meant to express... "I can't say that in English". SO frustrating.

In as the extended version (the one I bought two tickets for, at RCA House, then RETURNED after discovering that it was being shown withOUT subtitles) would contain scenes I've NEVER seen (had translated, one time, via Subtitles), viewing these, without the translation would be virtually painful.

I'd be happy to help. I'm a MCSE, a former computer consultant from Los Angeles, and was previously a top-level engineer, for 20 years, in the television post production industry in Hollywood. Of course (!) I teach ENGLISH to all ages, now that I live in Bangkok (groan....)

This movie is, without a doubt, the best gay-themed "coming of age" movie that's ever been made.

Best regards,

Pawpcorn

p.s. by the way, Mario, and Witwitset are now both my "friends" via Hi5.com, for what that's worth (not much!) :D

Hello again :o

Well i know why it's being delayed - it's aparently STILL SHOWING AT HOUSE! Today i was at Central Bangna and just popped into Boomerang where the cute guy from last time recognised me instantly, saying "sorry the movie is still not out yet because they still show in cinema, but they say 28 for sure!"

And just now i looked at the (somewhat confusing) website of House (www.houserama.com) and yup, altough not showing up in "showtime" it still says "Now showing - The Love OF Siam".

And of course, releasing that DVD would hurt House's business - they probably have some contract which says that there won't be a DVD as long as they still have folks paying for tickets.

Best regards.....

I've just watched Love of Siam on CVD (three copied disks in Thai) and enjoyed it. I thought it a very realistic portrait of middle class life; family problems, growing pains, agony of first love etc. While a little too long, it was well filmed in a matter of fact way, with no fancy camera tricks or CGI. I thought the ending very sad but my bf said he thinks it was done that way to avoid censorship problems, and maybe appeal to a wider audience. It certainly deserved the recent award.

Hi again - thanks for the information. I have another thing to add. I pre-ordered the Limited Edition at Sahamongkol Movie Cafe. My boyfriend found a story on a Thai message board: a concerned customer called the Cafe about the release date and was told that he could get the package end of this week but it would be missing the wooden toy - he would have to come back for that later. So it seems that there is a problem with the production of that. I wouldn't bet on a March 28 release either. I'm going to wait...

Hello everyone,

I'm the fan of this movie in Taiwan.

Last week, I downloaded this film with Chinese subtitle and was so moved after watching it.

After checking on the internet, I found the EthaiCD.com and purchased the O.S.T/VCD/DVD/August band all together.

Here's the problem. Do I still have the chance to pre-order the "Limited Edition"?

I checked on Boomerangshop.com and found that I couldn't register and order as a member outside of Thailand.

Just a little bit frustrated.

Could anyway offer me some possible ways to get that limited version? I'll be really appreciated.

I leave my MSN here for further contact.

Best regards,

Marvin

Posted

Dear Marvin.

I am afraid you will not be able to pre-order the "Limited Edition" set anymore. As i was told by Boomerang, only 1.000 of them are produced and those are sold out since February.

As for ordering online from Boomerang, they don't really have their system sorted out - i placed an order online for both DVD's (regular and limited) and NEVER received a confirmation or instructions for payment, and neither was my order ever processed - it is, to date, listed as "new order" even tough i already have the first DVD in my hands.

When i went to the Boomerang shop the very helpful guy there actually converted my online-order into a shop-order so as of now i have TWO open pre-orders for the "Limited Edition" set, if all goes well i can, on release day, take two of the sets home.

Now i might keep one closed as a collector's item (like i did with the regular DVD and VCD) and open the other, watch it, make a "backup" and then sell it to the highest bidder :o

Best regards.....

Hello :o

Well my prediction was right.... the film HAS hit the torrents sites.........

Err....

WHAT exactly did you censor me for? I just mentioned that the film is available on torrent sites, i did not even say WHERE, all i said is that i have a subtitle file and want to make it available..... gosh, what if i talk about a LINUX torrent, will it get censored as well???? That stuff is perfectly legal, ok?

Just a page before guys were talking about creating a subtitle for this movie, now i've GOT one for it. That's all. Or do you censor those other posts as well??

Can't stand censoring for no-matter-what reason but specially if there was nothing to censor in the beginning and then it makes me look like i've posted something illegal.

To clarify again: I did NOT post ANYTHING illegal.

Hi :o

I have done the suggested already, i.e. contacted him and asked for the reason, i got a satisfying answer too.

Now since the original post was more or less deleted, you too can't see it - i did NOT, in any way, shape or form, put a link to ANYthing there. I also did NOT provide details as to where and how the material (movie) can be obtained.

All i did was to offer the subtitle file alone (a small .srt file) to anyone who wants it, because a few posts up several other people were discussing the possibility of creating such file by themselves. I could save them the work because i already have the file so they don't need to make it themselves. This file has no copyrights because it was created by a private person and shared via a torrent, in such case file sharing IS legal (i can also share any and all files i create myself, be they videos, music, pictures or Linux distros 100% legally with whomever i want using whichever means i want - including torrents, a medium that was invented for exactly that purpose.

I will; edit my above post, as i did not want to insult anyone, i was just very upset that my post has been seen as something illegal, which it was not, and due to the action that was done it actually looked like an illegal post.

<edit> had to find out that it is not possible to edit that post - only the most recent one.

So i wish to repeat - i do NOT give out information about torrents at all, only a file created by a private person with the sole purpose of sharing it with other people, this file does NOT contain any copyrighted material and i have it for anyone who wants it.

With best regards, and sincere apologies to PeaceBlondie.....

Hi :o

Yup, just got off the phone with Boomerang.... while i enjoy talking to that cute guy from there, i asked his honest opinion if that's going to be April 9 THIS year or NEXT year.... his answer: "I'm not so sure".

Weird. He said that "there are many problems with producing the DVD".

Should give me the master, i'll have the 1.000 done by end of next week :D

Hi everybody, the latest news: BTS and Boomerang have a notice posted in their shops. Essentially it says that the Limited Edition Director's Cut will lack the wooden toy on release, which can be collected at a later, unspecified time. The Boomerang website now says that the release date will be April 3.

My boyfriend found an interview with the director on a Thai website. People were asking him about the limited edition which is sold out already. He answered that the director's cut would be available in a normal edition later, which would essentially be the limited edition without the wooden toy :o . So there's hope for all who didn't pre-order.

Cheers,

Hi :o

I just received a call from the guy at Boomerang - the DVD is now available for pickup. And thanks to my working hours, which are 100% the same as Boomerang's right now, i won't be able to get it before Saturday!! Aaaaargh.

But good to know it's available :D

Best regards.....
