Bangkok begins random inspection of Gift Baskets

Laksi District Director Amornrat Ruethayanwat (อมรรัตน์ กฤตยานวัช) revealed that she has instructed authorities in charge of health and environment to randomly inspect New Year’s gift baskets in institutes and department stores. The move is a Bangkok agenda to protect the public from defective products.

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has ordered the inspections to increase the confidence of consumers but asks that citizens still carefully choose baskets, especially those containing edible products.

The BMA states that citizens should inspect baskets for damage and also to pay attention to expiration dates and FDA seals. The BMA asks that the public give special attention to fresh foods such as vegetables and fruits.

As for distributors, the BMA instructs that they must clearly market baskets with store logos and give warranties that customers can return unsatisfactory goods by February 29th 2008.
