Firstly I apologise if this question and answer has been posted a million times, I've tried to use the search feature but it doesn't really refine the search much so here goes.

I've just come back from the movies to see American Gangster, I remember some of it was being shot in Chiang Mai. So the first exterior shot in 'Bangkok' looked very very similar to where John's Place is, on the Moonmuang , can anyone confirm that? Its really bugging me!

Haven't seen the film yet, but I remember they were filming for one day around warawot market and had dozens of cars vw vans etc driving down Chiang Moi.

yeah just near warorot market. they had all these vintage cars etc and rickshaws. denzel washington was totally walking up and down the street. should have had my camera handy

Yep John's Place renamed the Blues Bros Bar. They needed a place that was decidedly seedy and filled with drunks - seemed the perfect location I suspect at least a couple of the extras were there when the original meeting happened in '65. Probably on the same bar stool and with the same girl hassling for a ladydrink.

Is the film showing in CM now?

If not, I am sure it is already available at the usual places - none of which we will discuss

I was in a bunch of scenes shot up in Chiang Dao. I met alot of good hilltribe folks up there as well as a bunch of good expat blokes from CM. We stood around in position for hours and hours. Also got to talk to Denzel and Ridley. A fun time for poor pay....but you go more to say you were there and to socialize. And maybe get discovered!...still waiting.

I'm gonna go check it out this week....doesn't seem to be at major so I guess I have to go to that ghetto KSK theater, eh ?

i have seen some of the film on dvd ...looks pretty good. My friend who has a copy, seems to think there is some argument over screening the film in Thailand due to it being largely about the heroin trade from Thailand to the west.

Well I'm in the UK at the moment, so not sure where you can see it in CM, as someone said before, it'll surely be available at the usual places! And I recognised the worowat market bit too. thoroughly recommend the film, quite slow but perfectly paced. Which scenes were you in realthaideal?
