Any Aussie, British, american, Canadian Women In Pattaya?

Featured Replies

Hi.. I am new to the forum and it looks like that mostly men post on here and they seem to mostly be married to thai women. Nothing wrong with that of course but are there any that have aussie, british, canadian, american etc wives? (also how come you hard working men have so much time to chat online :D )

Are there many of you woman in Pattaya/Sriracha? Are there clothes around to fit a western size woman and do some of you get togeather for lunch and a chat? I of course would embrace any thai, japanese etc woman as friends but its nice to have someone with a similair upbringing to have a good chat with.

My husband is considering a job offer in Sriracha and i have asked this question in another post but only one reply. Whats day to day life like for a western woman in Sriracha?

thanks :o

Not sure about Sriracha, but in Pattaya (Mabprachan area cause we really go into town unless its for food shopping or gym) it is HEAVEN. And after 8 years of living in Thailand, there is no way I could live back in Aus (Perth).

I'm not a very social person---my husband calls me a recluse, and if it weren't for my daughter going to school I'd never leave the house :o --- so I spend a lot of time at home but the only other women (british, dutch and australian) I do "socialise" with are my daughters school friends - but even then it is usually related to a school/after school activities(horseriding, or other things at school that require parent interaction)...

As for clothes, you shouldn't have any problem if you are short and small in size - but in my case, it's a nightmare finding clothes to fit me regardless of country. :D I usually just stock up on my favourite clothing (bras, jeans and some tops that fit) whenever I visit Australia.

Do you already live in Sriracha, or just thinking about it? Where we live (mabprachan) it is totally heavenly, and if it weren't for the fact that I love where we are now - I'd love to live in Rayong. Out here, we're far away from the busy of Pattaya, but still close enough to go in everday if we need to.

Hi Diane.. and thanks for answering both my posts. I am average height and average size. Big compaired to thai women. I was thinking, like you said... that i would have to just stock up on clothes when visiting oz. I guess you can get some clothes from pattaya touristy stalls.

Yes we are still in oz and considering the move to thailand. My husband has been offered a job in sriracha and its a big decision especially with a child. We had always wanted a job overseas and last year would have jumped at this chance. I think maybe because my mother passed away 4 months ago it has changed my thinking.

Are you able to drive yourself or do you have a thai driver?? I remember the crazy roads of thailand.

What makes life in thailand so heavenly for you?

tropic, do you want me to move this to the ladies section? Or maybe the pattaya section? you'll get a better response.

Sorry to hear about your mother :D

Why is thailand so heavenly for me? Well easily the lifestyle. On my first visit here 1999, I immediately fell in love with the carefree stressless feeling I just got from being here. I can't really explain or know why I had this feeling, but I just felt like I didn't have a worry in the world. Not that life in Australia was bad, but I just felt like I had the weight of the world on my shoulders all the time. Maybe it was because I suffer from depression, and it was just how I was/am. One thing I can say is that before we moved here for good, I was suffering from severe anemia that no doctors or blood specialists could explain after all the tests I had to try and find cause.

Two months after my husband and I moved here (an opportunity came up for us to buy a gym in Pattaya which we couldnt pass up, so we packed up and left australia) and I started to feel much better, so I went to have my blood checked and amazingly the results came back normal and I wasn't anaemic anymore. Maybe it was the iron tablets working, but I'm still convinced that it was because I felt so relaxed and stress free in LOS.

Anyway that was then, but I still fell exactly the same as my first visit here and everytime I visit Australia, that heavyweight always comes back and I just can't wait to get back to Thailand. Even though living in Thailand is sometimes frustrating, we quickly realise how good a life we have here. As much as I miss my family back in Aus, this is home and we have no plans of changing that anytime soon.

For examply, things i would really miss if we left and moved back to aus would be:

Waking up to the sounds of roosters before sunrise (when most people are still asleep) and enjoying the peaceful early morning hours.

The fruits that we take for granted (pineapple, mango, rose apples and other tropical fruits) that can't have because they are so so expensive in Australia

The cost of some foods (like eggs, chicken, beef, vegtables etc) is so much cheaper here. While some food items may be more expensive or unavailable (like Samboy Salt & Vinegar potato chips and australian meat pies), overall it works out much cheaper eating the same foods we eat back in Aus.

Water... When you pay $AU1.50 for 19 litres of the H2O, it's really hard to hand over $2 for a 500ml in Aus.

Medical/Veterinary.... Even at the top international hospital (and many people say expensive) in Bangkok, it is SO cheap to get tests, specialist treatment, medicines, etc compared to Australia. And the top doctors here (at the Bumrungrad in BKK) are just as good if not better than australia. Even the fertility specialist we used to fall pregnant and then used during the pregnancy was awesome and there is no way we would have received the same excellent treatment for the cost. We also didn't ave to go through the run-around aus couple face when they need to have fertility treatment.

Our maid - You won't get fulltime house help (5 days a week, 8am to 4pm) for $AU225 dollars a month

Daughter's entertainment - Angel is very active and loves going to those centres where kids climb, jump, slide, ball pits, etc and in Australia when I took her to one those places (Tropical Twist) I paid $11 compared to just over $1 we pay for her in Thailand. Also visits to parks, mini zoos, etc are soo much cheaper here too.

Driving - no fear of speed cameras/radars, CHEAP fuel/gas and better drivers :o than Perth. Sounds weird, but I feel safer driving here than back in Australia.

The warm weather (except for from between march/april to june/july when it is really humid and I really hate it). Our daughter would expecially miss it as she was born here, and she feels the cold like a thai would. At the moment I think the weather is perfect, but for Angel and the thais - it is TOO COLD :D My daughter is so used to the weather that druing her weekly horse riding lessons, she usually wears a long sleaved top with jodhpurs without breaking a sweat. And she's never sleeped with airconditioning at nightime, which my husband and I can't go without except during this time of the year when it is a bit cooler and not too hot in the evening.

Those things are by far from everything I love about living here, but just some of the things I really notice and miss on trips back to australia.

Hi, I am a western woman living in Rayong. I used to live in Sri Racha for a short time. I really liked it there. You have Robinsons Dept store for all you shopping, and you will find western size clothes in there. Also there are some nice restaurants around. IF you are into nightlife there is not much to offer, at the time I lived there only one nightclub. As far as foreign woman living in that area. Well when I was there was not many, just a few teachers, but I think that might have changed now and are a few more western people in general. It is in a great location as far as travelling to Bangkok, Pattaya, and not that much of a journey to go over to Koh Samet for a few days of R&R.

Yes, I am a Brit married to a Scotsman and live in Pattaya. The Pattaya International Ladies Club has many nationalities and a lot of the women are here with their working husbands, some, like me,are retired out here. Most of the big companies they work for also have wives groups who meet up socially. The PILC-pattaya has a website you could look at.

Merry Christmas and happy 2008 !
