Fastest Internet Possible

Featured Replies

I need to have this:

(minimum of 2M download /512kbps upload)

My speed test at www.speedtest.net says:

312 kbps download and 186 kbps. I am using TOT and recently just upgraded to ADSL high speed for 1000 baht a month. I really need to have the speed mentioned above. I live in Trang. Is it possible to get this and how do I get it??

Thanks.

Check if CAT telecom is in your area - call them.

If not, call TOT call center and inquire about business plans. They have 4MB plans, I think. I don't think you will get actual 2MB downloads during the daytime with these either though. I am not sure if TOT offers BHT 15,000+ exclusive DSL connections.

I have the 1000 Bht version and it generally does reach 2Mb downloads, but only late at night/early morning. During the day it often slows down to a crawl.

TOT has home packages and business or SME packages.

Home packages have a contention ratio of 1:50, which means that 50 users will be sharing the actual available bandwidth.

Business packages have a contention ratio of 1:10.

TOT charges 2700 baht exc. VAT per month for a 2M/512k business line.

CAT telecom has a 2M/800k adsl package for 2800 baht exc. VAT per month, contention ratio 1:8. Absolute advantage: a much faster backbone in Thailand.

If you want the full 2M all for yourself, CAT will provide you with a HDSL line (124500 per month exc. VAT) and 2M guaranteed international bandwidth.

Leave Trang.. Probably leave Thailand !!!

If you absolutely must have 2mbit actual international download speeds I dont think any of the consumer priced alternatives will make it (CAT is close) even the SME packages (running up to about 8k for TOT) probably wont give you this all day.. From there your looking at 50 - 100k or more for real lines with allocated bandwidth.

Fast Internet here is really hit or miss.

I have a 1000 Baht Cat line here in Chiang Mai .. Using speednet I just tested at 1750 - 1850kbs To LA, New York, London and Singapore.

When downloading through usenet I usually get my full 2Mb, same with multi threaded ftp downloads. Bitorrent speed really depends on the seeders and the tracker.

Unless you go with a leased line there is no guarantee of speed and those are very expensive.

Oh, my apologies.

But feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

I’m understand samsara....

Internet in LOS is too expensive and slow.

As an example, my friend in Switzerland (not a Internet paradise) just installed ADSL2+.

25 MBit/s download

2,5 MBit/s upload

Fixed IP

Open Ports

Price per Month: 75 CHF = 2186 Baht

available in LOS when?

I'm probably wrong, but going into the local CAT office a few days ago, I saw leaflets for their no contention lines, and although I didn't take one (slightly to expensive for me...) I recall seeing prices between 25 and 60k Baht, not 100k+...

I'll definitely check it out next time I have to be there :o

And CAT's 4 mbps/1mbps is giving me between 3 and 4 mbps download, pretty consistently... priced at 5000 Baht+7%vat

you are absolutely right in what you say. I just had 2mb installed (BKK) and they advised me to upgrade to the business package at 2,700 bht even though its 1 mb there are less users its lightning quick they use it downstairs in the Internet cafe. 2mb is is all I need and it never ever drops out when on skype and Im there a lot
