It's problematic to go by Chaopraya Express boats as they finish early. From Saphan Taksin yo ushould get a boat from one of the Yok Yor restaurants......they have their own boats picking up and dropping off at S. Taksin.......its free but they finish around 10 or 11 pm I think. You can always get a taxi back if yo ustay later. Yok Yor restaurants are usually beside the river. there is one right out near the Southern bus terminal (Sai Dtai Mai) which is on the big canal. They are Thai style, one sip of the beer and it's topped up.......but the food is great. Fish and seafood a speciality! Enjoy !! :o

Try one of the restaurants at Tha Wang Lang (Sirirat). Thonburi side of the river, one stop north of Tha Chang. There is upscale dining nearby (Supatra River House) as well as some no-frills dining in the pier complex itself. I also had a nice dinner one eveing at Krua Rakhang Thong which is next door to Supatra River House. Great view of both Wat Pra Kaew and Wat Arun from these two restaurants.

Same problem applies for this area with the Express boat stopping service around 19:00. Simply getting back across the river to Tha Chang is no problem as the cross-river ferries run 'til late. Supatra River House also has their own boat that will provide transportation but I'm not sure how far they will travel.

We have had good luck at the WanFah restaurant. As you exit boat stop #5, turn left, go to the small street cross the small street into the restaurant. It is the first restaurant north of the stop on the river – about a 50 meter walk from the stop. They mainly do dining cruise business and have a tourist buffet upstairs. We ignore all of that and dine out on the balcony next to the river. We have eaten there three times for lunch and always excellent food and service. Despite it’s name, mostly Thai food.

Our experience at Yok Yor had been mixed. We once arrived there at 4 PM when the kitchen was basically closed. They graciously opened for us and then prepared an outstanding meal.

On another occasion, Yok Yor served an overcooked, under spiced meal. We asked if they had asparagus and they assured us that they did. Later they served some cold white stuff, obviously from a can, which carried a 250 baht price when we got the bill. This was several years ago, so things may have changed.

The white stuff you were served is what they call "sea asparagus" (normai talay, vs. normail farang for what we call asparagus in English). It is considered a delicacy, and carries a relatively high price. It is similar in taste and consistency to abalone, and usually does come from a can.

On many occasions,I have taken a special woman/friends and family to the floating riverside restaurant at Nontaburi. Take the boat to the end of the line(Nontaburi),and you can see the rest. just before the end on the right.

The food is great and cheap. There is live music(usually a woman singing). Can oly get a long-tail boat back to Bkk(after 8pm), or go by land.

The sunset can be beautiful :o
