If it were me I would look at the price difference between the GPS, the car and first class insurance and instantly decide that the GPS is a nice toy that I can live without but if my car was stolen (with or without the GPS) I would have a much bigger problem as I would have to replace the car.

I try never to skimp on car insurance as it really isn't worth it.

I think the OP is talking about a GPS system that is hidden in the vehicle. This GPS system will then send a signal so you can track where the vehicle is. If stolen you just log in, get the position of the vehicle and inform the polis where it is.

Price from around $400 or about 2 years worth of first class insurance.

Nice thing to have and possibly better than an insurance if you don't care about all the other coverage you get with a first class insurance.

Personally I have a first class insurance because of the 3rd party liability insurance, not so much for the theft coverage.

I'd get 1st class insurance ramped up above the 80% they try to fob you off with and realise that if someone has nicked your car then they will probably find your GPS thing and chuck it in the nearest klong.
