monkeygirl
Hi! Looking for a cute Thai nickname that is not too common, like Nok, Lek, Noi, Jin, etc. Something kind of fresh and new. Anyone got any ideas?
sbk
Thai people shorten my name to Na, which one guy tried to change to Ka Na (as in Pak Ka Na, chinese kale). My husband thought it was very cute but I thought it might be hard to explain to my family how I came to be called a vegetable
Boon Mee
"Ead" is one of the less common nicks. Loosly translated as "fat" baby as Thais generally get their nicknames shortly after birth.

Som Nam Na
I also met a girl (I know...they are all girls. Blokes just don't do it for me). Her name was Elf. She said it correctly. Then I asked her friends what her name was (he, he) and they said "El" Me: "What?" reply: "El" Me: "How do you spell that?" reply: "E...l.." I then said to the person (whos name it was) "why did your parents choose a name no-one can pronounce?" She said, "they not, they caw me Pui, but I like Lor of Ling" . chanchao
I'm basically in love with all names that are more than one word/syllable. Some really cute ones in that category, and I know I met some recently, but at the moment I can't remember anyof them. I know they were more original than the fairly common 'nam fon', 'nam wan', look-kate (raisin!) and such. Cheers, Chanchao

Gazza
Not a Thai name I know, but I gave my daughter the easy to pronounce name of Hana. Japanese for flower and yet sounds farangese (Hanna, Hannah). Also it seemed apt as my wife's name was Dokmai. My daughter gets called either Hana or 'Na' for short by her friends. andyinkat
The names of some of the girls in my classes keep me smiling, from A, E, O to Moo,Poo and Porn. I have a 'Lucia' who spells her names 'Russia'. But I'm still cringing now I've discovered that I've been pronouncing Moi's name with a mid- rather than rising tone; all this time I've been addressing her as 'pubic hair'. I kid you not. A synonym for ป้อม "poom" would be กลมๆ "klom klom" Maybe she didn't like that. (otherwise it could be that ป้อม "poom"can also mean "dungeon" ) Cheers. Snowleopard.
