If you are just looking to stay for 6 months, apply at the embassy in Belgium for a double entry tourist visa. It will allow you to enter Thailand twice. So you would enter Thailand, stay for 60 days, extend your stay at an immigration office within Thailand for an additional 30 days. Then you make a border run, stay for another 60 days, get another 30 day extension, and you are at 180 days.

You apply for the extension of stay around a week before you are supposed to leave the country.

Just make sure that you leave and come back for the second entry before the expiration date listed on the visa.

I don't know if things have changed in the last 3 years, but the Thai embassy in Brussels was singularly unhelpful to me (a Brit) when I wanted to get a non-o (marriage visa), "Belgian nationals only sir". Probably wise to give them a call.

Ended up going via the UK and getting one from Cardiff.
