Where To Buy Dreambox 500 In Los

Featured Replies

Does anybody know where to buy a real Dreambox 500 and not one of the crappy Hong Kong clones that are everywhere; most of the ones on ebay are fakes.

Nobody mention the jsat company, I've looked at a mates from them and also in the shop and they are clones. He's not bothered though, but I know their failure rate so I am! Especailly as they are charging real box prices. So anyone know of a reputable company?

What's a Dreambox 500?

that's a very good question! It's a satellite receiver that runs linux, so it is very flexible. I need an alternative to jsat as theirs are copies.

I can give you a web site that sell dreambox 500 s but I think they are clones as well but he does have a lot more dreambox with hard drive & they are not to expensive. http://www.eldsat.com/ you can check it out.

thanks for that scotsman, but I don't think they are based in Thailand, the site is registered by a UK company and there are no contact details at all on the website.

Anyone know of a Thailand satellite source?

UBC / Astro / MultiChoice / Some porn / etc.. All free if you like or a couple 1000 baht per year for a professional (but illegal) service

Google 'cardsharing'...

UBC / Astro / MultiChoice / Some porn / etc..

you make me look like a dirty old man!! I want to use mine as a media station. It can stream to a HTPC so I can time shift, record to HDD.

Thanks a lot scotsman, I really appreciate the links. One of those companies is 7000baht a box cheaper than JSAT, :o which is fantastic. Another one, BKKsat only does packages, but this is 10,000 baht cheaper than JSAT :D :D so even if they are clones, considering jsats are as well, this is a huge, huge saving.

Have a virtual beer on me!!

Yeah the streaming is handy..

I am actually trying to talk the DVBStream guys into writing code so that the dreambox works as a tuner in vista media center.. Would be a lot better than what I am doing with the dreambox cardserving and secondary sat cards in the HTPC.

sounds intersting. How would you then connect the DB to the PC, I presume the ethernet port. What software are you using for your HTPC, I'm planning on Windows Media Centre and I'm going to use a third party EPG for multichoice and Astro. I want the facility for season passes.

I'm struggling to get a decent analogue tv card as well. 10 a penny in the UK but not here. Although I haven't tried fortune or pantip yet.

Media center does not officially support DVB-S so you need this tool to make it work.. I am trying to get them to code up support to grab the MPEG data stream over ethernet and feedback control to the dreambox. However as its not currently running.

Dont get an analogue grab card (dubious quality, noise, complications with controlling the STB) get a Sat card.. Run a codesharing server on the dreambox, use the sat card and progDVB, pick up your cardshare server, use DVBSbridge to get it into media center (full PVR, pause live TV, and a proper UBC EPC via bladerunner and XMLTV listings) with the ability to then stream it back out over media center extenders through the whole home.

Once you have a clean MPEG bitstream into the PC you can also look into cleaning up the UBC data stream with dScaler / ffdshow filters. If your projecting the image or going big this can make a big difference.
