Which discount airlines fly from Thailand to Hong Kong?

I've often used AirAsia which is great no frills airline, however they don't fly to Hong Kong.

I would prefer to fly from Bangkok, Chiang Mai would make a nice side trip.

thanks in advance!

Air Asia fly Bangkok to Macau. It is then a short ferry or hydrofoil trip from Macau to Hong Kong. Flights fill up fast and are more expensive on weekends. Fly mid week for the cheapest deals.

Thanks, I would like to get a direct flight because i'll be taking another flight from Hong Kong.

Any idea how long it would take to get to HK airport from Macau?

Only thing about AirAsia, last time I flew the flight was delayed over 1 hour, maybe i'll spend a night in HK.

The ferries take about 1 hour and leave every 10 minutes or so. Then you have to get from HKG ferry terminal to the airport (by train). Macau airport have a service where they can bus you direct to the ferry and clear Macau customs only once, but these services are only every hour or so in the afternoons. See this link. http://www.macau-airport.com/en/v01/01_express_02.php

Flying Air Asia via Macau is probably going to be the cheapest, but less convenient especially if you have a lot of luggage or little time. Talk to a couple of travel agents to see what kind of deals they have on BKK to HKG one way flights. THAI is usually expensive on this route, but there are a number of other airlines flying to HKG from BKK.

I think part of the reason that Air Asia doesn't go to HK is competition is quite fierce now. Both Emirates and China Airlines have fares around the 8000 baht mark. Hong Kong Express may be a bit less but not sure where one would get tickets in Bangkok.

DragonAir, the low cost subsidary of Cathay Pacific fly from Bangkok to Hong Kong.

Dragon Air doesn't have discount prices, everything I checked was quite expensive.

I was quoted 6100 for China Airlines BKK to HK from travel agent.

I am looking for cheap flights BKK-HK too, just like to visit HK for a few days in April,

I found cheapest now: Emirates BKK-HK-BKK return ticket about 7.000THB

However: one-way BKK-HK could be more expensive and there are many more expensive 2-way tickets (up to 2-3 times) in April.

I have not decided yet, which date I will go in April. Just want to plan visit one day ahead. Will late booking be more expensive (like the 2-3x seat offers)? Is booking in advance necessary or are the cheaper flights still available whenever late booking?

Is it possible to have cheap flights BKK-HK-BKK without early reservations. What is your experience?

I think if you book at the last minute it could be expensive, Hong Kong is a very popular route and the seats sell out fast, hence the lack of budget carriers.

China Airways take some beating, they are reasonably priced and provide a good service. I have used them and would certainly do so again, I have used their website, which undercut the local travel agents.

Thanks for the help, looks like China Airways or round about route from Macau on AirAsia.

Its all about availabity from here. I do like to gamble so Macua might be fun stop for one night.

FOr full pledged airlines, they go with diffrent fare class, so , logically speaking, the most discounted fare usually booking class V,W for most airlines will run out first , so you will end paying the next availbale fare class. But beware of those discounted fare restrictions esp in changing date.

Whereas Air Asia, and all budget airlines works on seat availbility, meaning, they will give a very low fare for that day for that time like a "bait", and if many people take it, they will increased the fare immediately ,I beleive the system is automatic ...SO in budget airlines, once you get a very cheap deal, and its right with ur sched, take the risk, get ur credit card and book it

Dunno if I am allowed to do this.

Check out this site.

http://www.orient-thai.com/promotions_hkg_en.html

I use Orient Thai and One-2-Go regularly.

Air Asia I use as well, depends on deals at any given time.

Feb last year, NZ, Brunei, BKK, Phuket, KL, Bali, KL, Chiang Mai, BKK, Brunei, NZ, cost me all up $NZ2,008.00.

Including all accommodations, except Phuket and BKK.

Advance bookings for all, get into Oeient Thai, join up for emails, Air Asia too, well worth yer while.

The advanced bookings here will suit you admirably.......

BTW, Orient will give you a snack and drink. Air Asia sells meals etc. Does not allow personal food to be eaten on plane, yeah rite.......LOL

There's also Kenya Airways, with good service, Skyteam mileage accrual and ~7000 THB return last time I checked. If you will go for another flight shortly afterwards, better go for a full-service carrier so that your baggage gets checked in, LCCs never do that.

Ya talking garbage.

Of course they check in baggage.

Orient Thai is for sure the cheapest, but can you really enjoy a flight sitting in a 30+ year old run-down Jumbo B-747 ? it has a reason why they are so damned cheap at the moment....

I am a bit surprised that nobody mentioned the best and safest budget option on this route, which is undoubtfully HONGKONG EXPRESS. but u have to talk to ur travel agent as they cannot be booked online....

I guess my post wasn't clear, I meant the automatic check-in of connecting luggage when transiting (putting a ticket for the final destination on it so that you don't need to claim it when transiting). Does Orient Thai do this? AirAsia, JetStar, etc. certainly don't :o

Both China Airlines and Emirates can be booked online.

Emirates you can also book through Opodo online.

If Cathay is not premium pricing too much then Cathay is by far the best and offers the most flexibility re flight times.

How cheap do Cathay get if you book close to the time? I want to go in April, but currently it's about £350 ret..

Hotel in Macau plus gambling losses and you're expending all this effort to save a couple of grand on a ticket ?
