Hi,

I'm going to Krabi next week and I'm looking for a good hotel, not too far from the beach and possibly not over 1000 bath, can anyone suggest a good one?

I was also thinking to go to Koh Lanta as i never been there before, how much does it cost from Krabi and is it possible to sleep there without spending fortunes?

I was then thinking to move to Phuket from Krabi, does anyone know how ofter the ferries leaves to Phuket and how much will cost me?

Any suggestion is welcome,

Thanks

Hi “Kerr17”

As no one has answered yet I’ll chip in with my couple of cents worth. I’m sure others will be along with more solid information.

First off this is just of the top of my head from what I can remember and while broadly accurate don’t take it as written in stone.

Krabi is just a town and staging point to go somewhere else. The two places to go are Railay Beach and Ao Nang. Railay beach to my mind is the nicer of the two with white sands and clear waters. Ao Nang is more crowded and the beach not so nice.

To get to Railey Beach you take a longtail boat from the waterfront at Krabi, to get to Ao Nang you can grab a white color pick-up taxi on the main road near the 7/11. Can’t remember the prices but I did it can’t be to expensive.

At both places you have a multiple choice of accommodation so something within your budget will not be a problem.

To get to Koh Lanta you can either go by boat (nicer but more expensive) or by mini buss cheaper but not so interesting. Boat price, who knows now with fuel costs but I would guess round 400bt and minibus 2/300Bt.

For the boat ticket best go down to the waterfront to the P.P. Family desk. The boats used to leave from there but now a bus takes you to a new passenger boat dock. Last time I used the service tere were two boats per day morning and afternoon.

Koh Lanta has lots of accommodation of various prices. You would probably want to stay at Long Beach as this is the most popular for independent travelers. Personally if I am going to a place for the first time I let one of the numerous touts talk me into a place just for one night. This gives a place to check in after a tiring journey and a base from which to check out other/better accommodation.

I know you did not ask for any recommendations but while in the area I would recommend a visit to Phi Phi my most favorite island in Thailand, I have not been there since the Tsunami but I understand it is back to normal so worth a visit. Only by boat from the Krabi waterfront, or from Lanta.

Hope this is of some help.

Enjoy

Daffy.

the only places you will get for 1000 baht are guesthouses about 5 mins walk from the beach - you have no chance of getting a 'good hotel' for that price in high season!!

Just come back so I'll put my 2 cents in:

Ao nang beach nothing special - plenty of resorts quite expensive

Raillay - much the same - Krabi town is much cheaper and has a greater range of food and accommodation options - I think day trips to the beach from here are more doable - Songtaews go from krabi to Ao nang all day.

Koh Lanta - 350 bht from boat station 3hrs, 300 Bht by mini bus 2hrs

Accommodation - Khao NinBeach (something like that!) 20 mins from ferry port by 300bht Taxi - Vans from Krabi town will usually take you straight to the accommodation - i stayed at and would recommend Sunset bungalows - 600bht - 1000 bht per night - spotless right on the beach nice family - not commercialised but plenty of beach restaraunts and a few village shops

Have good trip
