I originally started to visit Thailand, as I found it would cost the same to visit as it would a typical European holiday destination. So I had the chance to visit an exotic location and experience a completely new culture. I then found that you could reduce the cost of staying by being there longer and staying in an apartment. So European holidays lost their attraction.

Now I'm wondering, is Thailand the only place where I can decide to visit for two months, easily find a serviced apartment that has everything I need (especially an internet connection), and quite often has a pool too? Then later in the year I can do exactly the same thing again, with no problems.

Obviously if cost is not an issue, then yes you can visit anywhere and live in a hotel, but there seems to be a gulf in the price difference between Thailand and anywhere else I've looked at with regards to short-term apartments.

Is Thailand unique?

I don't know how much you expect to pay, but apartment in Thailand can be around 15,000 - 25,000 Baht per month or less in small provinces. I feel accommodation is Thailand has good value for money. In Vietnam foreigners often rent a house for about the same price with a budget apartment in Bangkok.

Similar prices for a holiday in Argentina, thousands of monthly rentals available with internet connection. Brazil also, but would be more expensive if not going with pounds or Euros.

Perhaps, you should refine your question to :-

How many countries in the world accept permanent tourists whose only arduous task is to scuttle over the border ever 90 days.

Also not unique at all in that aspect.

However, to me Thailand is unique in having a special addictive flavor. There is only one Thailand.
