I am interested in the Carryboy Sportlid SM or GSM for my 4 door pick up, but don't know much except the info from the Carryboy webpag. There it looks very practical...

Would appreciate more infos re. quality, stability and handling.

Watertight?

Can you close and open the lid without locking with the key?

Are the 2 small motors in the front to lift it up reliable?

or is the whole thing rather unusable after a while??

Hi Birdman,

I've had a sportlid for the past 10 months and really like it. I think it improves the look of the truck. It is completly water tight, and i've never had a problem with the motors. I did just take it back to the dealer to have some of the nuts re-tightened. I had noticed that it was getting more difficult to close and seemed slightly out of line. It took them a few minuits to sort out, if it happens again I will do it myself. Yes, you can open and shut the lid without locking it.

Would I have one again? Yes.

Hi,

Got a (non-electric - SR?) sportlid on my Triton 4WD 4-dr two months ago. Seems that the extra weight really helps to "calm down" the rear suspension. Don't know about being watertight yet (little rain so far, but no water seems to get in during washing/hosing down!) but it can't keep all the dust out as that comes in under the tailgate. Think it's helping with fuel consumption. I think it improves the look of the vehicle too.

I am still undecided. I own a black D-Max-top model. It is beautiful, but get dusty quick. A huge black lid will add to that. But it's practical...

Are you speaking about lids with or without the rollbar?

Anyway thank you very much for your answers!

I don't know about the Carryboy but I have a TopUp on my black Colorado and I think it's pretty good. Yep, it's another surface to keep free of dust (but I have a cover now) but it's certainly waterproof and I reckon it looks smart.

Just curious though; why would you specify electric motors or does the Sportlid only come so-equipped? Just seems like extra weight, complexity and expense. But if it's anything like the TopUp, you won't regret buying one.

Thank's for the recommendation. What is TopUp? A brand name? Is there a webside?

Carryboy offers Sportlids with and without motors. I would prefer the motor option, because that should be more comfortable, which costs more, but that's ok.

The extra maybe 15 (?) kilos should be no problem for the D-Max and for complexity or reliability I am posting here to find out.

I would even opt for a lid with 4 motors, which opens by remote. But if even one motor breaks, the lid cannot be opend, I guess...

Birdman, you don't have an electric toothbrush, do you? Or an electric can-opener? Only pulling your leg... :o

TopUp is the other main manufacturer of lids; them and Carryboy pretty-much share the market, I believe. Don't know any prices, I'm afraid as mine was on when I bought it. But I would imagine that, quality-wise, it's on a par with a Carryboy. Most accessory shops that tint windows, sell different wheels etc, will be agents for one or both.

Mine is a carryboy with two electric motors, rooflining and electric light. Supplied and fitted, including paint to match the truck 22,000 baht.

Hi I agree with the above comments, have had on the toyota for 2+ years no probs, watertight too, and no probs with motors in 2 years, although we are changing the lid soon, but its only due to change in personal taste,
