There's also the stage set in Hat Yai, and I always passes the area after work at 5pm.

All they talk are mostly bullshits and they even protested on the oil price by comparing the oil price between Malaysia and Thailand, to some extend, they even encouraged Thailand to use Malaysia's oils.

I dont wonder why PAD can prevail most of the Thais are too uneducated to dare to think for their own and would be more than willing to follow the stronger 'wave' or 'trend' in the similar manner.

500 farmers join agro-protest, demand government help to resolve debts

BANGKOK, June 10 (TNA) - Nearly a hundred farm vehicles carried a group of 500 farmers in a convoy arrived in Bangkok Tuesday determined to carry their message to Government House demanding that the state's Farmers Rehabilitation and Development Fund solve their indebtedness problems.

However, the caravan of 30 farm trucks and 60 pick-up trucks were stopped by about 100 police officers who barricaded the access roads to bar the farmers approach to Government House and the prime minister.

Some of the group said they would join farmers protesting already, encamped at the Bank of Thailand, also urging the government to help solve their debt problems.

Their protest was unrelated to that of the People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) which continues its anti-government vigil at Makkawan Bridge on Ratchadamneon Nok Road near the United Nations Asian headquarters.

At nearly the same time, the protesting farmers at the Bank of Thailand agreed to go home Wednesday after Deputy Prime Minister Maj-Gen. Sanan Kajornprasart met with the farmers core leaders and agreed to help.

Gen. Sanan promised to help solve the debt problem and conflicts among Farmer Rehabilitation and Development Fund board members. The board will meet Friday seeking ways to help the indebted farmers.

Meanwhile, a group of garlic growers in the northern province of Mae Hong Son blocked a highway between Pai and Chiang Mai, calling on the government to take immediate action to solve garlic price problem.

Thousands of garlic farmers gathered early Tuesday morning at three locations simultaneously -- Mae Hong Son City Hall, the Mae Sarieng district office and the Pai district office.

The protesters in Pai district, however, decided to block the highway in the afternoon to paralyse the traffic.

Nirand Chankaen, president of the Mae Hong Son Garlic Growers Network, said after submitting a complaint letter to Mae Hong Son's deputy governor that the network urged the government to guarantee purchase of 12,000 tons of dry garlic at an established price of 25 baht per kilogramme.

"Unless the government issues urgent measures to help garlic growers, we will continue to protest at City Hall," Mr. Nirand said.

Meanwhile, Thongyu Khongkhan, secretary-general of the Land Transport Federation, said that drivers of more than 700,000 trucks nationwide will stop work on Wednesday morning from 5 am until 12 noon and park their trucks at roadsides near the offices of transport associations across the country to urge the government to help solve the problem of rising diesel price.

Some 80 per cent of all of Thailand's commercially transported cargoes are carried by trucks.

He said the federation submitted their demand to the government after finding it not possible to shoulder the burden of the rising diesel price and were not permitted to increase their transport service rate.

But the demand went unheeded and drivers across the country now threaten to move their trucks to Bangkok on June 17 if the government doesn't come up with tangible measures to assist them.

But you heard of the corruption case in oil? That every purchase runs over a middleman who adds a little bit? If you would stop at the PAD they could tell you the details.

Most probably a very small amount per liter, but a hugh amount in total and for sure a reason to be upset.

I really don't have the background knowledge to know if it is true or not, but you should hear the full story before you call them uneducated.

The PAD contains mostly the middle class and there are a lot very well educated.

Docteuh Chalerm along with a bunch of others were busted tonight. Some guy is on the PAD stage right now with documents as thick as a phone book and peeling back the layers of lies on how they all obtained their PhDs etc. :D Even the people who backed and approved the documents he is holding are fakes with fake credentials. :o

Oh the humiliation, Chalerm must be fuming.

The next fake docteuh to be exposed is Thaksin himself. Let the world know.

Chalerm's TOEFL test score was under 500 which is the threshold for acceptance into the PhD program at Chula. He claims however that his GPA was sufficient and impressive enough for them to issue him a waiver and granted him admission. :o

At least his thesis was in Thai. Thaksin's doctoral thesis, on the other hand, was written in English. His demonstrated abilities in this language, while amusing as an excellent Elmer Fudd impersonation, show complete unbelievability that the thesis was written by him.

There's some good opinion articles in the Bangkok Post and Nation today outlining the irresponsibility and pugnaciousness of the PAD for those bothering reading anything other than the military-enforced PAD party line.

As an dissertation supervisor in a past vocation, for both foreign and native English speakers, one of my duties was to help out with grammar and make structural suggestions. Especially in the case of foreign students this is needed as very few are at native level. (Actually few native speakers can write a dissertation without some help, but that is another issue.)

What is not acceptable is the advisor, or anyone, helping with content or research. Sam Huston Univeristy is a farily prestigious institution and any hint of plagiarism or ghost writing would not be tolerated, and Taksin has even been honored by the univeristy as one of their outstanding alumni.

As in neo-liberal transnational corporations and International Finiancial Institutions such as World Bank and Asian Development Bank, with damaged credibility in their ability to solve either poverty or inequality, especially in Thailand, where their policies and projects have helped create bigger rich-poor divides and environmental destruction. Your rabid dislike for someone like Kaewsan, hints to me about your dislike for alternative social and economic scenarios for Thailand than the TRT vision of a cowed populace, fed corporate crap under a democratic mask.

What gets me is that PAD proclaims at every chance how they are the true believers who love the King. Yet they also rant against any comercial and business aims not in line with their bizarre greenie, self sufficiency beliefs.

Plachon you write in another post that

16. Avoid or stop altogether buying your fuel from US oil companies, esp. Exxon/Esso.

17. Avoid or stop altogether buying consumer products from China. (US and China are No. 1 and No. 2 contributors to CO2 in the world - positive purchasing habits sends the most powerful message to serial polluters)

18. Avoid or stop altogether buying products with palm oil in them, ... The oil is sold to companies like Procter & Gamble and Unilever to turn into household products. You buy their stuff, you help encourage forest destruction and increased global warming. Use your wallet wisely).

Yet the King (wisely in my opinion) has several projects devoted to helping palm oil producers http://www.chaipat.or.th/chaipat_old/journ...l03/palm_e.html

These inconsistencies in PAD (and plachon ideas have similar content) dogma are never picked up by the press because they Thailand are left leaning. Very sad and could eventually result in Thailand heading the way of the Phillipines.

Wow! I am surprised that the Nation or BKK post would write something against the PAD. Those newspapers would have to be the most one sided newspaper I have ever read.

I dont know how they claim to be independant newspapers when every front page supports the protests and critizes every move the government makes. I will give it a read anyway. Thank you.

Sam Huston[sic] is an inexpensive state university ranked in the third tier, which doesn't really lend itself to being called even a "farily[sic] prestigious institution."

The award they granted him was way back in 2002... long before the true nature of his developing despotic nature was widely known. Most ironically, it was a "Humanitarian Award" and preceded his multiple human rights violations that occurred later. Since that award, they've essentially disavowed he even attended as evidenced by the last reference to him on their website being 6 years old.

There really isnt such a thing as a (politcally) independent news media anywhere in the world. Sure the Nation, and Post are bias and so are the Thai language news media including the giovernemnt controlled ones. Then again lets mention Fox News, The Sun, The Daily Mail, Rush, or lets mention the New York Times and its pro-government propoganda moment to launch a war. In most places I have lived most educated people choose the news media source they listen to or read to suit their own persuasion. Personally I have always found it more challenging to read views contrarian to mine.

In Thailand any discussion on high ups who have accumulated (or had procured for them) numerous honorary degrees is treading on very very thin ice.

What evidence is there that Taksin's PHD is in any way false?

Please read the quote attached to my comment. That was what I was responding to. My comment may seem odd taken in isolation. I know nothing further of the issue in part as it is not one that I really consider important as I said.

Sure wish I could upload a sound file of one of his speeches in English. The proof is in the pudding as they say.

I would agree. He certainly has bigger problems to face and as it was mentioned only in passing. As mentioned, he is his own strongest evidence... anything more precise is no doubt long gone.

To clarify an earlier post, this issue, relatively minor as it is, does not involve honorary degrees, but supposedly earned degrees.

I could be wrong on this, but I thought the current EC assumed their positions before the coup.

If I remember right, the former EC is still at the court, than was the coup.

I think they came from the Junta time, but not sure.

Have fun, it may not last long!

Here we have a self made multi billionaire, who use to run an international company, then his own country, who addressed the world at the U.N. tribune, and, on the side, own his own first league football club.

Then we have a bunch of “intellectual”, “english” teacher or journalist, whose greatest achievement in life is to master their own mother tongue …

Give me the football club anytime !

Just this once your not giving these thieving, phoney persons ( ahhem ) the *@#*$,S , the recognition they deserve on this one S.J.

Against all the serious mis use of power / corruption charges ect. ect. this is not so important.

In it,s isolation, however, it is a very important observation in as much as these unearned, phoney degrees will have been used to project equally phoney characters and character references, for personal gain and consequent advancement.

As for the humanitarian award Thaksin was awarded, how sick this is in the aftermath of the years following on from it.

The thing is that this is a small example of one of the many of the so called PUYAI buying their status and positiions in life, while the majority of Thai people have / do work very hard for theirs.

These Lying, Thieving, Dishonest, Unprincipled individuals are and have been overseeing the running of the country for many a year and looked down on the less privileged and made them obey / follow a different set of standards they have always lived by.

Dr. ect. ect. in front of their infamous names just makes a mockery of the many years of effort genuine scholars have had to put in to achieve theirs.

IMHO as always.

O. k. for the knockers who say society is like this, but....i just want understand WHY it has gone on for so long and by all intents and purposes is still doing so in the 21st century !!!!!!!!

Worst of all the less priviledged have to / are expected to wai these scum.

I have some problems getting the connection between Austrian Nazis and the current situation in Thailand. But I hope you can relax a little bit when I ensure you that I don't rape my children in the cellar and I guess most Austrians don't do that. But thats really a bit off topic.

There's no connection.I was just having a mad rant.By the way I can certainly agree that, on balance, most Austrians don't get up to no good in their cellars.

The Nation has a diverse group of journalists, some supported the coup, some support PAD all the way, some can't stand the coup, some don't trust PAD.

When it comes to strikes and unions their editorials are completely unpredictable - one day they might sympathise with strikers, next day they blame them for holding others hostage.

Then there's business side - Nation now is a "business newspaper", they don't report from slums anymore, all "social" issues are covered only in advertising supported Xpress, squeezed between celebrity gossip and Ultimate Living Super Expensive Mega Condominums.

Bangkok Post is far more consistent and generally stands to the right of the Nation, but then again, it's owned by the people who brought us Central Department Stores, the bastion of puyainess.
