I went into my local Dept. of land transport in Salaya to try and get my thai motorcycle/car license today, I had the following paper work:

Passport (90day ED non-imm visa)

International drivers licnese for bike/car

Stat dec from Aus embassy stating address (do i need this translated?)

Rental agreement (university housing) in english

Photos

and photocopies of everything above.

the Salaya office seemed pretty backwards and after a lot of messing about i was told i need to get a copy of my rental agreement translated to Thai as well as something In thai stating why I wanted a driving license - obviosly this was rubbish so I left.

My question is do i need to get my licnese in my local province or can i get it done anywhere in Thailand, if so where is the best place to go in Bangkok to get it done and are the Dept of land transport offices open on saturdays?

You also need a medical certificate. Otherwise you have everything. That office sounds like they don't know what they're doing. Get them to pull out the regulations for farangs. All govt. offices closed Sat.&Sun.

I have jsut renewed mine, but the system was the same as application:

Copies of passport/visa pages

work permit,I think that you can replace this with a letter from the Umphur saying you are living in thailand,at your stated address,I had to take the owner of the building with me,to show there is etc..however not needed if you have a work permit..

you will also need a couple of pictures...

I think that was it..

hope this helps
