It could even be that some of the Library (DLL) files having a problem or be damaged in your system. If I had that problem in the past, I was run an Repair of XP and it was back on live.

To run an Repair, you need to have the CD which you used to install your Windows XP version. It will re-install XP without of loosing Data or Settings but has the disadvantage that installed update need to be re-installed as well.

To do the repair I talking about follow this instruction:

1. Boot from Windows XP CD

2. ignore the first screen with option Repair

3. Hit F8 for accept the EULA

4. the upcoming screen should have the option of Repair in the lower part, click R for to start repair.

5. Have the CD-Key ready because that is the only one you need to key in at the whole process.

Caution: if that option for to Repair, which should come after the EULA screen, not come, your System is seriously damaged (the system files) or the CD you use is the wrong CD!\

Cheers.
