Krabi’s occupancy rate is now standing at around 80%, according to the Krabi Tourist Association president Amarit Siripornjuthakul. He said major markets are from Germany and Scandinavia. He however states that research survey indicates that tourist satisfaction seems to decline mostly due to insufficient number of staff and lack of professional staff in tourism. Amarit said the Tourist Association is working with education institutes and the Skill Labour Development Office to enhance skills to ease the problem. The private sector also seeks cooperation from the Employment office in nearby provinces like Trang and Phattalung to advertise job vacancies to attract job seekers to the province.

He said Indians usually check in 4-5 star hotel accommodation and travel in families which mean they spend more. Air India Express low cost airline has also just announced it is planning new direct flights to Phuket this year.

Meanwhile some Indian journalists who recently visited Phuket and were taken out on a yacht trip to Phang-Nga bay admitted that Phuket and the Andaman region has splendid natural resources, especially marine tourism and if the region is made well known to the Indian population, they would be interested in making their holidays here.

The project costs 76 million baht. The plan will be similar to those operations at Phi Phi and Lanta islands where the cable will be laid under water with the centre stationed at Ao Nam Mao in Sai Thai and would come on land at Rayavadi Rai Ley beach. The length will be 3.8 kilometres while the contract is scheduled to be completed in the middle of next year. Krabi International Hospital

Having land and a house in Krabi i am a frequent visitor, i am British but live and work in Dubai. If anyone asks where to go on holiday for a quiet relaxing time I of course mention Krabi.

I light of the down turn in tourism over recent years I know from experience that tourists travel with health insurance which is quite costly, I looke drecently at the krabi news where ten new hotels were being built and the Andaman area has many 5 star accomodations where the clients would require an International typehospital or they woill not go to Krabi.

Has the tourist board of Krabi or Andaman looked at this fact, If you don't have internation medical facilities this will DETRACT people who would ordinarily spend big bucks down in Krabi.

Build an internation hospital in Krabi area and you will see the high end traveller increase in this area.

Regards

Hi Frank,

can you forward where you saw the info on these ten new hotels?

Good post, you are right they need a quality hospital there in Krabi. Had a friend go to the current one, they had a smooth surface going into the entrance, it was raining, he was going in for one problem, slipped on the slick surface and seperated his shoulder.........
