Does anyone know the visa situation for working part time from home? I'm from UK age 35, been here a few years mostly on tourist and non o visas. I have some savings and a bit of UK income, but am thinking of doing some part time work as a hypnotherapist - got some friends who think I could do a bit of work with this. Looking at the visa categories for Non B, they don't look as though they cover this kind of thing. I'd be looking at maybe only about 10-20000 a month in income and it would be work from home, either mine or my clients.

Has anyone got experience of working this way (part time, low income, private clients, a few hours a week)? Setting up a business is not an option, and being employed through a business doesn't seem to be either, all my friends and contacts come from different backgrounds. I did this work 5 years ago in England quite successfully and also in Australia before, and would like to have a go here - but confused as to the work permit and tax implications, on what could turn out to be a very small venture.

I'll be back in the UK in three weeks and can probably apply for what I need to Birmingham or one of the other consulates.

A couple of other questions - if I got another non O in UK, is this later changeable to a non B in Thailand?

And if I got a letter of employment - which may be possible, would an application for a WP be limited to employment by the company in the letter only? Or is the application for the Non B entirely separate from the application for the WP?

Grateful for any advice - this type of work doesn't seem to fall into the regular categories.

And kind of work requires a work permit, and therefore a Non Immigrant B visa. Even charity workers and colunteers are required to have a work permit. Welcome to LOS.

Is a WP obtainable on a non O? How would I go about getting this? And would it be suitable to the situation I set out in my first mail? There must be plenty of people here doing work of this nature, which fits neither the category of employee, or setting up own business.

It would require the same paperwork type employment proof. I believe there is a method to set up such a business but would highly advise use of experience legal consul. I do recall Sunbelt posting about such activity last year if you want to search his posts. But believe it would be cost effective to employ such a firm.

To the best of my knowledge there is no minimum salary requirement for the application for a work permit. In fact, one can even get a work permit for work performed without any remuneration.

However, for the application for extension of stay based on employment, there is a varying minimum salary based on nationality.
