What's this trueinternetgateway thing? And why does it suck so bad?

CAT used to have the monopoly on international connectivity.

They were hated by everyone because of the high prices they charged to the ISP's, and the low level of gateway management capabilities.

Nowadays they do not have the monopoly anymore, so the ISP's are now allowed to set up their own international gateways.

And it looks like those who've done so, are a whole lot worse then whatever CAT is doing

Latency of between 500 and 1000 msec on the true gateway servers almost in your own back garden does not look too good :0

It's a bit hard to give a reference on CAT, since for some reason WOW refuses to return pings from a CAT adsl account.

When I do a tracert, you'll see that all pings throughout CAT's gateways remain under 85 msec, and the first returned pings in the USA (LA) are still under 300 msec, so I guess total latency to WOW will remain under 300 msec, mainly generated simply by the physical distance of the WOW servers...

True comes with a TOT phone line that I never use, so no loss there. Paying for the line every month just for the adsl.

Is this 2/1mbps a home package or SME package?

My connection has been very stable like this, both latency and speedwise, since I had it (about 9 months now), but other members reported speeds tanking on their CAT connections.

As always, as bad as it is, it'll depend on location, load in your area etc... You'll never know what you will be getting until you subscribed and the line is in!

The complaining members only mentioned speed, so I don't know latency is bad for them as well...

To be honest, i would be quite content with a 1mg (or even half mg) line if i could get a stable, low latency to the US. My connection is primarily for gaming, and as most of these games *can* run on a dial-up and transfer very little live data its not necessary for me to have a fat pipe.

For me its all about speed (TTL/Ms Response/Packet loss etc) i would be happy if i could get a fairly direct connection *out* of Thailand - I'm also aware that being pretty much on 'the other side of the world' I'm not going to expect <200ms response times. In my experience i can play at around 300-400ms response with very little disadvantage in PvP MMO games. Just finding a ISP that can give me a stable 300ms response time to the US is the difficult bit.

I'd pay a premium for the connection if a company could guarantee that
