Corruption

Featured Replies

Listening to the Thai news broadcast a few days ago I was struck by how often the English word corruption came up.

Is there a Thai word for curruption?

If not, perhaps that is why the elimination of this insideous problem is so difficult?

Tid-sin-bon

taxi drives Bangkok style :o

I asked my husband about this one once as I had heard locals using the english word as well. He told me that they were lots of words for corruption but they were specific to an action. They didn't have a catch-all word for all corruption so they just used the english one.

Kinda sad, really. :o

Why on earth do you want a Thai word for corruption?

Corruption does not exist or will be stumped out shortly.

Maybe it's something that the westerners brought.

Same same internet, computer, AIDS, Mafia......etc.

Naw...it's all Dubya's fault. That war-mongering cowboy from Texas! :o

Because it appears to be the only way of making any money here

Yeah and it's only because he's trying to impress his English boyfriend. :D

Maybe something along the lines of "mai pen rai" :o

It's a interesting question, and given the answers above, I'll add another.

Thaksin's war on corruption is getting a lot of coverage, but what is the Thai word or phrase for "war on corruption"? Does he use the English word?

I thought it was 'Tao Rai' (How much) but using the 'low whispering tone'. :o

Behave yourself, GP :o

I not even know who is Dubya and Tony just survived his heart thing.
