I am currently in Aus and had my passport renewed here as the old one was full. Last time I did it in BKK and they had run out of 48 page Pports and as I had applied for a 48 page they were just sitting on it until they got more in (lucky I rang up to check) so just asked for a32 (no refund). It took 15 days at that stage. I got a 48 page in Aus but it took 25 WORKING days. So with weekends and Easter over a month. They do appear to have added 9 months for the non expiry on the old one. I now have to carry 3 passpots to keep all my visas but thats not too much hassle. I am due for a new Thai one so that can go into my new Pport and I guess I will have to apply to the Aus Embassy to get my Resident Return transfered. I sent mine in from Pkt by post last time and had no problem with that you pay them a seperate amount for the return and I just sent it either with EMS or registered post I can't remember, but getting the photo countersigned seemed less hassle than flying to Bkk. I never used my birth cert. just handed in the old one. They just cut the corners off it to cancel it. You can get all the forms off the net but do check the photo requirements, but it's not rocket science. I did my own with the remote on my video camera and just printed a A4 sheet full (photo paper) and cut them out with a guillotine and had no problems. Still got plenty for visas etc :D Phoning the embassy in Bkk is easier than Canberra which cost me 2 days to get through and $9.90 on my credit card just to be told it had arrived and was in the queue :o Off to wok in Algeria soon :D then back to LOS :D

I got a 48 page passport issued by the embassy in Bangkok in December 07. If they were restricting it to 32 page passports before that, it must have only been because they'd run out of 48 page blanks or something.

Thanks mate...renewed mine in June 07....so maybe thats the answer then...run out....nice they tell you though, could have hung on a little longer till they had some in stock...!!!!
