Hi all,

A friend wants to come to Bkk on a 6 month validity, 2 to 4 entry tourist visa. He asked me if to obtain this at a Thai Consulate he needs to show a return flight ticket.

I have looked at theThai visa laws and regulations and all it says is that a flight ticket, paid in full is needed. It does not say one way or return. He tells me that the Consulate told him a one way ticket is OK.

But recently I was in Penang with a group of people all wanting Tourist visas and they were all asked for valid return flight tickets.

Can anyone help me here?

If you do not tell us what Consulate it is hard to help. Tourist visa issue by MFA regulations require a ticket - but most Consulates do not check, or only check some nationalities. Others, such as Vietnam, seem to always check.

2. DOCUMENTS REQUIRED

- Passport or travel document with validity not less than 6 months

- Visa application form completely filled out

- Recent( 4 x 6 cm.) photograph of the applicant

- Evidence of travel from Thailand (air ticket paid in full)

- Evidence of adequate finance (10,000 Baht per person and 20,000 Baht per family)

- Consular officers reserve the rights to request additional documents as deemed necessary

Penang now apparently waiving the air ticket requirement - which would make sense as they have been bereft of a lot of business as a result. And I am not talking about Thailand based visa runners.

Sorry, my friend is English but lives at the moment in Germany. The Consulate is in Dusseldorf.
