No such thing yet!

The capacity of an ADSL line is currently far greater then the available international bandwidth!

I would guess the fastest you'll get is a 4mbps/1mbps Premium Hinet package from CAT (5000 Baht/month) or if upload is important, a 2mbps/2mbps Bizpaq (SHDSL) package also from CAT (5500 Baht/month)

The latter will probably be the most stable connection you can get here.

CAT pulls a dedicated line to your place, only internet, no phone service...

On the premium package 2mbps/1mbps international download speeds are normally over 1500 kbps.

On the 4 mbps/1mbps, international speeds are normally in excess of 3000 kbps.

No experience with the corporate bizpaq symmetrical package.

They also have a premium symmetrical 2 mbps/2mbps package (at 2850 Baht/month) where uploads are quite fast at around 1500 kbps...

Do note the "normally" prefix. I've found CAt to be quite stable, but they also have problems sometimes with speeds dropping to below 500 kbps.

And be aware there many many p[laces they will not even entertain running you this kind of line..

I was in Patong.. about 200m from where this line was available but no way in hel_l could I get them to run it to my home.

Thanks a lot for your valuable info.

Do you think if the 4mbps/1mbps Premium Hinet package and the 2mbps/2mbps Bizpaq (SHDSL) package are speedy and stable enough for international telephone reception service or international call centre via internet phone such as skype ?

The phonecall is between Japan and Thailand.

I am aware of someone in KK that has a good connection via satellite - no idea of the speed but I think it is about 7,000 a month.

What the hel_l is wrong with the Internet speed these days,... right now it is creepy slow like I never experienced before...

Short answer: yes

Long answer: average latency is 300-400ms (to Europe), packet-loss is less than 0.5% average (2 short peaks of 8% over the last month). Remember that bandwidth is not the important factor in VoIP, latency and packet-loss are!

what type of ping you get with those premium bkk connexions? surely better than 300...right?

US servers ping at around 250-260 msec

European servers ping around 400 msec.

This is the best it'll ever get, basically due to the physical distance to the USA, and the amount of hops involved covering such big distances.

European servers will always ping slow, because the fattest internet pipe goes to the US, pretty much all the traffic gets routed through there! That's quite a big detour...

It was actually not easy trying to find a European server :o The BBC website was hosted in the US, as was a Belgian newspaper I tried...

Ended up pinging a government website to get to a European server!

Latency of anything under 400 msec will give your pretty good VOIP connections, over 500 msec and you'll start to notice the delays!

YES... as well as the PC I have 2 Dreamboxes

PC is slow, if I have the TV on and then try to use PC the TV picture breaks up

like wise if I have the PC OFF and the TV on and go up to watch another channel on the bedroom TV I will lose the signal on both..

The fastest package from True Nonthaburi [no other option on landline] is 256.... for the last week the best I can get is 86, and one day could not get more that 48........ Dialup would be faster..!

Phone True = too many people on line is problem !!!!!

On TOT 2M/512 ADSL I typically get 1750/400kbps, ~100ms to local sites (BKK) - speedtest.net.

International speeds & latencies is the main problem however using VoIP to keep in touch around the world :-(

To Europe particularly bad typically better than right now: ~650ms, 65/70kbps!!!!

Lucky to have VPN link to Europe, but it blocks most useful VoIP applications like skype most of the times & while it increases badwidth (usually) latency tends to stay similar or even worse...

Any VPN tricks used to link to US or other places with benefits? How to get a good VPN or proxy service???

Or is rather best to go for a better ISP in the first place?

Posted

yeah so while speed inside LOS might measure up normally towards the rated speeds such as 2000/500kbps, but typically international speeds to US/Europe/Japan can be anywhere from 50k-1500k IME.

anyone been successful in increasing speed or performance by way of proxy or vpn?

any ISP like TOT have proxy available???

From Koh Phangan, with CAT Telecom 2mb/800kb dedicated line, over 2 years now, i am very satsfied and my average speed always over 1500 kb, sometimes 1800. Altough little pricy (2700 something Baht/month).
