Bungalow With Internet-access?

Featured Replies

Hi

Looking for a bungalow, 5 months, I can pay up till 8000 Baht and for what I see here it is possible to find some ok-places around Mae Nam but none have a telephone line where I can install my computer. As my work depends of internet, I really consider it my priority.

Some told me I can have a line installed for 4500 Baht but have to wait for a month or more?

Any tips or addresses pls? North Area would do fine, Mae Nam, Bo Phut or the quiet area behind Chaweng maybe?

Thanks a lot!

It took me a year to get a line installed in the hills next to Maenam, it cost 17000 baht and works only occasionally. I bought an internet kit from Tesco but my success at connecting to the Surat ISP was around 10%, and very slow when it was connected.

I don't know how often you would want to connect and at what speed, but if you can work offline for 80% of the time you might be better off doing that and then taking your laptop down to Samui ISP and connecting there for an hour whenever necessary.

If the place you find does not have a phone line don't beleive the owner that says it will be installed no problem for 4500, try to find one with a working line already.

Everybody has different experiences.

Mine was after i found a house the owner took care of installing a telephone line. Owner said no problem, should take 3-4 weeks.

I got the line after 2 weeks. It is one from TT&T.

I use csloxinfo and KSC both prepaid cards. With csloxinfo i have no problems at all. KSC has problems connecting but when connected it works for hours and hours.

KSC was 259 baht for 50 hours. If you use it between 00:00 and 08:00 you get 50% discount.

csloxinfo is more expensive. About 10 baht for 1 hour.

I use mainly KSC and use csloxinfo for backup. That strategy works for me. No hassles getting an isp contract.

I take it your house is the only house up in the hills, because

17000 bht is quite expensive for a phone line to be installed. :o

There was this one place I stayed opposite the resivour on the North Caweng link road, Chaweng to Suckumvit link road. Half way up It was called Lakeview Bungalows. They had telphone lines in some of the bungalows. This was 4 years ago mind, so expect to pay more than the 9000bht/month I paid.

Clue, ther's a childrens playschool in it now.

Not the only house for sure, and my next door neighbour has her phone working most of the time. But it's a small problem and I've long since given up worrying about these things. Flying back on Sunday so we'll see if it works, not holding my breath.
