Looking For Some Intellectual People In Pattaya

Recommended Posts

Some of my fellow brainiacs and I gather at various venues to discuss very...........stimulating.......topics such as:

Wave and Ocean dynamics (i.e. it's not the size of the wave, but the motion of the ocean that does the "trick". Or is it the wave ?)

Comparative Relativity Theory (i.e. do the danc... at (yyy a-xx-xx) compare to the danc... at (zzz a-xx-xx) and does their theoretical s.x.n.ss have anything to do with their relatively skimpy attire ?)

Heat and Humidity Indexes and their effect on Retail Sales (i.e. do you buy/drink more booze when it gets hotter ?)

Money Markets and Global Economics (some members of the group examine watch and calculate exchange rates on an hourly basis, if not more often, trying to determine the optimum time to exchange a few quid/euros/dollars in able to afford just one extra golden libation at that particular time. Of course, certain "temporary" members of the group seem to have exchange rates memorized, and know exactly what the current rate for gold is. Many of these "temporary" members are also quite adept at determining just how much of each (money/gold) they will be able to relieve you of at just a glance. Amazing skill !)

The Dichotomy of Good and Evil (i.e. is it Good to close certain "establishments" at 2, or is it Evil ? Why is Lek Good at 11:00, and Evil at 07:00 ? Why is it Good when the BiB enforce the law, but Evil when it applies to/affects me as well ?).

Those are just some of the topics that get discussed on a (fairly) regular basis, depending on the State of Inebriation of the various members of the group. We have our meetings all over the city as we find Variety is the Spice of Life (but don't let the wife-g/f find out !).

I wonder what made the OP think this was a good place to find intellectual folk for stimulating conversation? :o

A quick perusal of the forum would have saved the embarrassment of this thread. :D A distinct lack of research, not a good way o show your credentials. :D

Hey; you sound like the type of person we need in our club...........the PPDWC (Pattaya Paint Drying Watchers Club). We meet every Tuesday at a secret location (so we don't get inundated with non-intellects) which changes every week.

Next weeks meeting will be extremely interesting. We are going to set up an experiment involving 2 types of paint (latex and alkyd) and vary the humidity and temperature in the incubators. We will watch (and drink tea) until they are dry. Now the fun part can begin.

We will attempt to model the variables to predict drying times; one model for alkyd and one model for latex. The hypothesis is that humidity will affect drying time for alkyd more than for latex and temperature will affect drying time for latex more than for alkyd.

We are hoping that maybe a 3rd degree polynomial will suffice to describe the model. :o

Don't know if I will be able to sleep until then.

what are the criteria for membership? which documents do i have to attach to my application? how long does it take till my application is approved or rejected?

That would depend on the temperature, wind velocity and humidity wouldn't it Naam?

I would think that any membership application would get priority treatment were it filled out on latex rather than alkyd or plain cellulose fiber.

Re: (Pattaya Paint Drying Watchers Club). I would like to be considered for membership of your club.

My favourite paint is the emulsion that goes on Pink, but dries White (for ceilings etc). Now that's some clever paint. You can see where you've missed before it dries.

I hate glossing but would consider latex.

Any chance of a pic of the Dulux Dog?

PS I am also interested in Flock Wallpaper, sorry if this has been pasted elsewhere.

It's amazing to me how people on this form are so quick to judge and flame others - the anonymity of the Internet at its ugliest. Dieter asked a perfectly innocent question looking for people who want to have conversations beyond the realm of beer, football and floozies. But no, we have to:

1) Pick out petty spelling errors from someone not native to the English language.

2) Call him a troll.

3) Insinuate he's into "Ganymede type" pleasures.

4) Start a flame war with other posters in his thread.

This forum is here for just the purpose Dieter made use of. Information, interesting stories and ideas. And to Dieter himself, if he's not yet given up on this thread - no clue, buddy. There are plenty of intellectual people in Pattaya, but we've all become products of the environment here, and we have to act brain dead just to fit in. Perhaps if we had a Philharmonic Symphony or opera venue....

I think Phil gets harmonic when his Symphony gets Operated on at "that" venue, leaving poor Phil's harmonics in need of sympathy.

Besides, some have offered to have stimulating discussions at various venues, but apparently Ocean Dynamics, Relativity Theories and Dichotomy discussions are not the OPs cup of tea. What more can we do ?

What I like to do in Pattaya:

Sitting in a bar/caffee

- or just watching the people (sometimes making pictures with camera)

:o I almost forgot about Walking Street...

edit:

I mean...what's more fun, the 1st or 2nd movie ? :D

"Old lady walking her dog"

Not that amazing,

Come get involved with Pattaya City Expat Club.

However, he got a very positive and helpful response immediately, but hasn't responded

This forum is here for just the purpose Dieter made use of. Information, interesting stories and ideas

I was under the impression that quite a few responses were helpful, others in jest and only one attacking his grammar, so not bad at all really, considering the content and possible attempt at a trawl.

History is not your forte.

No. Still, he does know that Germany was involved in WW2 so I suppose he got something right.

Actually, WW2? Could he be our latest ex-troll's second-coming? :o

If you read his closed topic in General, it all fits...

Anyway I think the op has already found his intellektuals and is not watching TV...sorry reading TV anymore. :o

You are right of course !!, it was Vietnam we defeated by dropping all the bombs..

We defeated the Germans after we captured the code-breaking machine and intercepted all the u-boat radio messages thus crippling their munition supply chain to Germany ..

No, not Vietnam...come on.....try harder.....I know you can get it

actually I am half right as we did drop a substantial amount of bombs defeating the Vietnese although i concede none of them carried a nuclear payload.

Quite fortunante really (although there are probably members out there who would disagree with me) but if we did, there would probably still be radiactive particles in the Thai stratophere and Pattaya would be a different place today. :o

You didn't win in Vietnam either. Try harder.

Japan was the recipient of the nukes

Vietnam is champion - they saw off the French and US and its mates left without winning

Korea was a nil all draw

Cuba didn't get going properly for the US

Afghanistan is not over

Iraq - well, the jury's still out on that!

C'mon guys,

Would like to do so but I'm afraid to go a bridge too far. Btw it has been said that cockroaches will survive a nuclear holocaust.

It is generally considered that America did not win that one, they left before the end.
We defeated the Germans after we captured the code-breaking machine and intercepted all the u-boat radio messages thus crippling their munition supply chain to Germany ..
I understand it was the British that captured the Enigma machine from the German Navy, in fact that was the second one the British had as the first was delivered to the British Secret Service by Polish resistance forces. As for cracking the codes that was the Brits too.

Still America got a man on the moon first! Oh Sorry - that was the German scientists relocated to America after the war.

As for America's involvement in the Middle East, is it a case of making up for the fact they turned up late for the last two World Wars by being early for the third?
