Cool Escapes From The Heat

Featured Replies

It's really HOT out there and the idea of a beach seems even hotter. this time of year, i seek the higher elevations and have found a couple of places to chill out in.

I'll share a couple of places with you out there if you do the same......

1] Doi Inthanon...the highest mountain, but no acomodation near the peak, but great for day trips from the few resorts at the base.

2] Doi Angkhan...1300 mtrs, hi end [Amari] to low end back packer hostels. great botanical gardens

now add to the list...........

It won't cool the higher you go, not at this time of the year.. head for the beach or stick your head in the fridge.

How wrong you guys are.....we just [today] returned from Doi Angkhan, just an overnighter and the day temp was mid 70's and night temp was mid 60's. beautiful gardens and the smell of pine trees everywhere and at 13000 mtrs, the air was as clean as it can get here.

Really refreshing!!

Find a waterfall, preferably well away from any tourist area. Waterfalls seem to mandatory feature in most National Parks in Thailand, so just find a remote one.

It always seems to be cooler, probably not much more than a degree or two, but the ambience of these places definately has a positive pyschological affect.

Nice cool fresh water if you fancy a dip.

Weekdays are best & the chances are you will have all to yourselves.

Caves can be good too. :o

Had a few days at Bang Saphan recently with my wife . 150 kms or so south of the hustle and bustle of Hua Hin. Went down by train and returned by bus. Resort picked us up at the at the station and took us the 5kms to the Resort ,700 baht a night, which was 500 mtrs from a very long quiet beach. The sea breezes were cool. Nothing there as far as nightlife but a nice restaurant/ bar at the beach with cheap grog plus a coffee/breakfast cafe where everything seemed to be 30 baht ,scrambled eggs , fresh coffee, fruit. Hired a motor cycle for the day, 250 baht, and cruised the beach, dropping off here and there for a swim. This is not far from the proposed steel mill so get in while its delightfull ,well for us anyway.

Did you take your own oxygen? :o:D

Bit cooler now since some rain, but here goes ....

Doi Mae Salong (aka Santikhiri) is a fun trip into the old KMT area. Chinese newspapers etc. Not much to do there really, just drink a load of oolong tea, and a bit of hill walking. Some accommodation options. Hilltribes are present around there.

Phuu Chii Faa is another fun trip. 1,628Mtrs AMSL. Out on the LoS / Laos border east of Chiang Rai. Plenty of little G/Houses to choose from. Wake up before dawn and leg it up the hill from the car park to get above the cloud base as dawn breaks. Like flying. Some Thai people still clad in their pink-elephant pyjamas.

At the Copa, Copacabana...The hottest spot north of Havana (and Ratchada soi 17)...

How to derail a thread.. Gonna be singing that all day..

Siberia, North and South Pole, Mahboonkrong, Darling and Chao Phraya Massage Parlor, Central Chidlom, ...

Kind of high at 30,000 feet!!! Thinking of explosive decompression... another way of cooling down to 50 below zero degrees celcius.
