I am a US citizen, (far from the retirement age of 50) returning to Thailand in October, 2008. I normally obtain a 60 day tourist visa and then extend 30 days. I may want to stay longer this time.

Can I start doing border runs and extend my stay past ninety days (60+30 day tourist visa) once my tourist visa has run? Is there still a limit of a total of 90 days stay while using the 30 day stamps? I assume my maximum stay could be 120 days (60+30 (Tourist Visa) + 30+30+30 (thirty day entry stamps) . Am I thinkin’ straight here?

Yes, and yes. There is still a limit of 90 visa-exempt days within six months.

No, and no. Your figures add up to 180 days, not 120. Actually, it will be a little less than 180 days because for each stay both the day of arrival and day of departure are counted.

After your one tourist-visa entry plus extension, followed by three visa-exempt stays totalling 88 days, you can immediately return to Thailand again with a tourist visa or any other type of visa.
