Is This A Common Occurrence?

Featured Replies

I retired here with my husband about 18 months ago. We had been married for 28 years. Within 10 months he dumped me so that his Thai tart could move in!

A friend of mine here says this is a common occurrence, but is it?

I know lots of single men come here for the bar girls, but does anyone know of any similar stories involving married men?

Classic answer. :o

You know its slow season when the odd factor of TV threads spike upwards.

A woman called F1fanatic? Don't think so.

I'm confused ... Exactly what is the problem ?

Naka.

Another 'sunday mirror' ilk reporter wants a cheap story for a slow newsday without doing actual work..

Troll........................and a really weak one at that

Look at it like this:

She can pick up where you leave off.

He is a man, he has needs, you are not willing to go the distance, she is. Make it work!

You be there for the chit-chat, and she'll be there for the (other things).

This is a gift. See it as one. Now you don't have to 'get your hands dirty'. No more interuptions during the F1 races.

He starts moaning, just send him into her room. The world needs more understanding wives like you. Nurture this. It is a gift.

Good Luck!

You properly got tired of him watching football and he got tired of watching the F1 racing.

So now he has a younger girl who loves to watch the same as he and most properly gives him morepost-59607-1209910516.gif

Maybe you could learn a few things from female Thais on how to make a man happy.post-59607-1209910442.gif

I know the lady in question and she is not a troll. But I have advised her that getting any sensible advice/support on this forum would be a complete and utter waste of time. Not wrong there then was I. :o

Maybe not a troll or a doll. post-59607-1209914602_thumb.pngpost-59607-1209914506.gif

It's a standard situation. And it's never a smart move for mature women to head thailand with a retired husband, cuz he'll start thinking that could not be a bad idea to have a new life there. Bad move, bad results (maybe not so bad for him :o )

As a mature-ish retired woman who has moved to Thailand with her even more mature-ish retired husband, may I say what utter b*llocks IKO is talking. So does IKO think I should ditch my feller and best friend of 25 years and ride off into the sunset somewhere? :D:D:D

Seriously, this is not a Thailand problem. If you are in a long-term marriage or relationship, these things have to be worked at. Long term is not a compulsory thing but, if you do choose that life, you have to think about your life. If you let yourself go, become fat/ugly, neglect your partner, don't join in the same things/don't go to the local with him/her, then the consequences will be obvious. I think this problem is everywhere, not just Thailand.

a mate of mine came here with his wife ,married for 12 years, she ran off with a thai man

oh dear. didnt see THIS one til i was told about it.

listen folks, the woman has asked for advice. maybe its a troll, maybe not. but please do try to keep it nice.

to answer your question, f1fanatic, not ALL men are into thai women. i am sure that it happens to some married men who come here, but certainly not all. as for some of you thinking that a western woman cannot make a man happy....well, it takes two to tango gents. you get what you give.

f1fanatic, if you are genuine and want 'real' advice, i suggest you ask in the ladies forum, where we are a lot more supportive.

I wasn't really asking for advice, I was just curious as to whether this was a common occurence.

Thanks to those who were helpful, I've decided to take your advice and move to the ladies forum for an intelligent response!

Ted.

I need to be a "doll" (a toy!) to receive your respect? I think that says far more about you than it does me.

I'm not sure what the OP really wants. Is it a common occurance? Does it matter - it happened to you, so in your life it is a 100% occurance.

Men leave wives for other women all over the world. Women leave men for other guys. Big deal.

I guess if you add the relative ease to find a willing woman in Thailand, then it's almost amazing that it doesnt happen much more often.

If your relationship is secure you have no worries - obviously there was smth going on in your marriage or possibly a mid life crisis for your husband?

Or possibly a crisis of judgment, by marrying a jerk. Pick better men.

I saw exactly the same thing with many expat couples when I lived in Taiwan and other places. It happened to a friend and several acquaintances claimed to be shocked. But after a while the wife admitted that she and hubby took the overseas contract thinking it might fix some of the problems they were experiencing in their marriage. Like maybe they just needed some new excitement to bring them back together. Instead being away from their home support network and thrown into a new culture, where hubby was working 12 hour days 6 days a week just drove them further apart, she into her expat-wives-tennis-and-lunch-network and him into the arms of a young Taiwanese woman at his company. Moving overseas might make marriages harder, not easier, to fix.

The way I see it is, if it happened to you here - it would've happened eventually REGARDLESS of the country where you live.

I feel sorry for you... and yes, in 4 years here I have seen this happen MANY times. But the good news is, I have heard as many stories of older men getting ripped off afterwards. Do protect your assets when there still is time!

Oh, and another thing, don't expect ANY help from guys on these forums... most of them are too busy telling each other how lucky they are not to be in a relationship with a westerm woman.

This is my first post and of course I am expecting some nasty feedback. Don't bother telling me I should go back home guys. I am.

Well, you might find some comfort in the knowledge that when his money runs out , his new girlfriend probably won't be far behind. In the meantime, hang on to your share of the cash, its mighty useful stuff, especially out here. As for the frequency of occurance, like the setting of the sun and bills. Just as a matter of interest, who's idea was it to retire to the Land of Temptations in the first place ? For married couples I would have thought somewhere like Penang would have been a safer bet. Tropical but slow.
