How Can An American Half-thai Get Dual Citizenship?

Featured Replies

I was born and raised in the USA and only have American citizenship so far but I can speak and read Thai and throughout my life visited Thailand very frequently and know my overseas family like family.

I'd like to get dual citizenship in the future after college and career gets started so that when I visit my relatives I can stay as long as I'd like like a normal Thai citizen and also maybe in the future if I get the lucky opportunity to study in a good university in Thailand.

Is the process an easy one (mostly just paperwork/bureaucratics but otherwise I'm fine to get dual Thai/USA citizenship like many other Luk Kreungs have)?

thanks for the help, i appreciate your responses

If your father or mother was Thai then you are Thai. Or did I misunderstand the above quote?

Edit: after seeing header you do say you are half-Thai so believe first step is contact Thai Embassy and obtain a Thai birth certificate - then a Thai Passport. You are Thai - you just have to claim it. But remember if male there is still military conscription in Thailand (not a big deal but something to be aware of).

Edit again: If your question is about legality of dual citizenship both the US and Thailand have no laws that prevent it - so it is accepted.
