I,m sure that we all know the que at immigration at the airport coming into Thailand is very long and boring.

I,m not cleared by Mrs Soihok to travel alone, so when we go to immigration into and out of Thailand I have to her with me.

So

We go through the Thai Passport only channel thus missing the 45 minute que in the foreign passport counter.I hold a Brit Passport

I recently was given a pass from Mrs Soihok to travel without her and deliver her Mother to Thailand and we went through the Thai only counter,I did get questioned in about my address in Thailand ,,,in Thai,,,I have managed to grasp a little Thai language and sailed through.

I must say that the immigration officials are very helpful when they see you have kids.

Unlike Manchester airport which was very embarrassing last time I was there.

Anyway,,,,,why would you want go to Manchester...pile of poo.

Cheers.

What was so embarrassing at Manchester Airport? Did you have your flies open perhaps? Pray tell.

I would apologise for the delay in my reply but you would,nt give a s**t any way so I wont.

I (Brit and Sheffield United supporter) took my wife (Thai) to England for the first time.

1. 12 hour flight was made to wait on the tarmac one hour before disembarking. We came from Singapore. Some passengers had come all the way from New Zealand.

2. Disembarked onto the tarmac and had to wait for buses to take us to..

3.Something that looked like Sheffield train station in about 1975.

4. My wife asked me why the carpets were ripped up and the bins were overflowing

This was about 7 on a Sunday morning by the way

5.We waited in the non European passport holders que for about 45 minutes with a 2 year old child.

We pass through the Thai passport channel in Thailand every time and are encouraged by the very helpfull staff at hand.I hold a British passport.

6. We payed something like 60 quid for my wife to be given a six month tourist visa to the UK,,,sour puss face bitch at immigration in Manchester asked how long she would be staying and remarked that my passport was dirty.

You can stick the UK up yer a**

I have been away for 16 years now.

When I left I was signed off the dole.

Now I make more than 60 thousand quid a year in Asia.

Sorry but Manchester airport and the rest of it is crap,,,,,why would you want to stay in the UK?

Next time take the wife with you to the British passport/EU passport queue. As a wife of British citizen, she is eligible to use it when you are present with her.

I've never experienced immigration at MAN as my flights involving that airport are domestic, but MAN experience is pleasant compared to LHR craphole.

I fly into Manchester whenever I go back to the UK. Admittedly, keeping places free of litter no longer seems to be a source of pride within the UK but other than that I have found the airport to be ok and Immigration to be spot on with my Thai g/f.

One time the international line was empty and the EU line was busy. g/f was in the intl. line & they called me out of the EU line...through in 2mins. My g/f has never felt intimidated by authority in the UK which I take as a compliment to the professionalism of the UK service provider.

This last time they had the temporary barriers in place..only one queue leading to the front. At first glance the queues looked enormous but again it only took 10mins to get through. The single snake line cuts out all the queue jumping and frenzy that is typical at Bkk airport particularly when they open up another window. If I am through BKK immigration in less than 30mins these days then I am happy.

At Manchester I find them to be very helpful, generally smiley but always polite & quietly efficient. Contrast this with some of Bkk's immigration who are real sour-pusses and surly ( I think some of them obviously enjoy the power they yield). Last time I flew out from Bkk I tried to get some quick advice from one of the immigration staff standing (sitting) around. Absolutely pointless, the guy was just not interested in even listening to my problem, no attempt to point me in the right direction just a dismissive wave of the hand.

So there you have it. Two conflicting opinions. There's a surprise.

WE ENCOUNTERED THE MOST SOUR, UNMITIGATED, DISGUSTING, BITCH OF A BRITISH FEMALE OFFICER AT THE EUROSTAR STATION IN PARIS RECENTLY. SHE WAS MORE NASTY THAN THE REDNECK AMERICAN IMMIGRATION OFFICERS IN TEXAS. TOTALLY INSULTING AND COMPLETELY UNPLEASANT. I WILL NEVER RETURN TO BRITIAN. SHE MUST HAVE BEEN TRANSFERRED TO MANCHESTER.

As has already been stated, please don't write in only upper case: this is the online equivalent of shouting.

It can't be a question of poor eyesight, as you appear to have no trouble reading others' posts.

Scouse.

Hear hear. Agree with you. Always found UK Immigration polite and welcoming so far. Thai Immigration offers however are from a different school, not a smile or a welcome. Just a face full of puss.

I would agree that most of the Thai immigration staff at the airport adopt a severe countenance but, hand on heart, I have never encountered one with a cat on his or her face.

I came through just the other day on a flight back from Singapore and to my amazement the Thai passport line was so so much longer than the foreign passport line. The Thai line went right back nearly into the terminal itself whilst the foreign was only 20 or so people deep.

I, wife and daughter went through Manchester Airport recently with no problems, immigration were polite and smiling, admittedly the airport is small looking more like a regional rather than international airport but, it was not crowded on either arrival or departure. I can see no reason to complain.

:o:D:D

In all seriousness, try Birmingham - a small(ish) airport with a regional feel. I always fly in there (Parents live in the midlands) and it's generally well maintained and been fairly hassle-free. Emirates are the only airline who fly wide body jets in and out of Brum but people like Swiss, Lufthansa, KLM etc have lots of connections to their respective hubs from where it's easy to pick up a flight to Asia.
