Back To Pattaya (finally)

Was 15 outside three bars yesterday afternoon 2-5oclock.

So what LB bar is your local then. as you obviously have issues about them. :o:D:D:D

I think they are all great guys, good luck to them :D

Sorry if I mislabeled you as one of the detractors. You haven't used the distasteful term 'infestation' or similar when describing their congregation. In fact you actually go ahead and count them daily when you are out and about so you can't be a hater after all, maybe just interested. Therefore, I must assume that your remark "Walking street is a joke now, full of lady boys." in post #13 is only meant to infer that the WS katoeys are funny and/or humorous and not meant in a disparaging way at all. My apologies.

You are right, there are more of them than before and a simple poll as you suggested would only confirm that.

However, regarding post #2's claim "This same trend seems to be true for nearly everyplace in the city" following on from references to bars in a well known ladyboy location forcing them on neophyte customers. This infers that Pattaya is being overrun by them which is clearly not the case (apart from the cellphone floor at TukCom of course).

Honestly, I think some of you need to get your glasses checked? Just a review.

Soi 6, absolutely a sh_tload of ladymen. 30 on the soi? Many more than that.

An entertainment zone

Soi 7-8, there's a sprinkling all up and down the sois? 30 on each soi? Possibly.

Another entertainment zone.

Soi Yamoto and Soi Post office? There are now ago-go's and bars which are

exclusively staffed by ladymen. Far east and hot and cold only two examples.

Yet another entertainment zone

Sois pattayaland 1 & 2. Many ago-go's with ladymen staff.

The inevitable overflow from the original Boystown in Pattayaland 3

Pattaya beach road and Jomtien beach road. They are all over the beach.

So are beach vendors, umbrellas and punters trying to sell you <deleted> you don't need.

And sand of course.

Walking street, after 11pm or so there are groups of 4-5 every 10 meters down

the street? Literally from the entrance all the way down to bali hai pier?

I might need to see if your idea of 10 meters is internationally recognized.

Just an unemotional observation that there are many more than there were a

few years ago? In nearly every entertainment district in the city? And while they

are easy to spot for many of us, particularly the middle-easterners and those on

their first trips can't seem to tell? There does seem to be an aahh overabundance. :o

Thanks cali for the amplification. I agree 100% that there are lot's in the legacy entertainment areas and a few more elsewhere. But they aren't trying to grab your dick at Tesco's at noon or trying to talk you into a ST in Jamesons and certainly aren't knocking on your door at night asking (soto voce) if you need company. Even the ones selling you a cellphone at TukCom, Big-C, etc., don't get in your face. The fact that the newbie or 'culturally challenged' may get their cart before the horse and end up with less than a 'happy ending' in the evening is only a concern to those unfortunates who probably won't be too proud to publicize their 'mistake' anyway. So, over all, Joe tourist isn't going to be suddenly fleeing for other destinations just because of them. As plasticpig states repeatedly, they are great guys after all.

Well, I'm sure we can all learn to be more tolerant of people with

different sexual orientation, and I don't exclude myself from this.

This whole transgender thing seems to be extremely prevalent here.

What I perceive as a mild problem is them working in entertainment

areas and indeed, passing themselves off as something other than what

they are. I mean when you're attempting to sell something based on

deception, and frequently there are problems almost immediately as

people realize they've been tricked/lied to. Thai girls are afraid to say

anything to the customers because they're afraid of the ladymen and

apparently many owners of establishments have no problem with them

as long as their bringing in money, but I have to say, when you start

passing off ladymen, some of them pre-op, as Thai girls, you're really

doing a disservice, and dragging down the quality of the nightlife. :o

Please don't label me a Ladyboy detractor. I was just pointing out there are a lot around.

I have some very good friends who are ladyboys. You treat them with respect and you will be treated with respect in return.

They are also surprising loyal. Had some pull me out of the shit (pun intended) more than once.

I'm all for equal opportunity employment, and I'm certainly not trying to engage

in any form of bashing. My simple point was that the demographics of the city's

entertainment areas has definitely shifted in the last few years. There are some

who purposefully seek out the ladymen, but for others, and let's use sois 7-8 as

an example, this used to be a really friendly area where you could sit down nearly

anywhere and buy a few drinks and enjoy some friendly banter. Now, literally in

every other bar there are a sprinkling of ladymen, they are more aggressive than

the girls and for whatever reason inherent in their DNA, they must approach and

solicit every farang that comes into their vicinity and it has changed the atmosphere

of the entire area. Is this the reason for the general demise of sois 7-8? Who knows.

The Dynasty on Soi 13 would be a decent apres Dusit venue. Closer to WS if that's still your center of action.

You catch a baht bus outside the Dusit and head along the beach road, you will be safe handing over a 10 baht coin. Point to note, always keep some 10 baht coins for the baht buses. Other point of note, check again nearer your arrival as by then it will probably be 'officially' 20 baht for that trip.

If I could afford the Dusit I wouldn't be overly concerned with the Baht Bus fare BigD :o

Closer to the Dusit you have got a few half decent places along 2nd Road, near Soi 2/3 - Places like Utoo Bar. Perhaps good for a stop-off on the way home, as it has a 'Big Als' burrito stall a little further along just outside 'Atlantic Bar' which is also half decent. Note: 10 baht will also get you admission into the toilets (twice). I know its a bit out of date, but for your reference have attached a bar guide. See how many you can get yerself into!;

PlasticPig - Why are you so scared of ladyboys?? :o

Thanks for the info on the bars - Fab = Big help....

Any more info guys would be good though......

Daytime gogo trawl should include the original TQ on beach road between Soi 12 and 13.

Cafe Kronborg on Soi Diana is comfortably appointed, has a well stocked bar and a great kitchen. Good place to get info on the local sports, golf, darts, etc..

Nighttime gogo trawl should include the original TQ on beach road between Soi 12 and 13.

Some bright spots among the bars on the Pattaya-Naklua Road as you head north from the Dolphin roundabout; probably the closest bar area to the entrance of the Dusit btw.

Pizza Big is also on the same road, and has all the usual Italian culinary suspects on their menu as well.

Cold beer and good vibe at the Wild Chicken on Soi Post Office, especially when the afternoon 'regulars' hold court. Secret watering hole for some of the Iraq and Afghanistan 'specialists' as well as resident tourists and oil-field trash. Decent menu too.

Afternoon delights at the Inn De Welkomm on Soi 3 (aka the Belgian Embassy), may take a couple of visits to get the right vibe. Their garden restaurant setting is very pleasant and has quite a good menu. Comfortable and clean accommodations too.

Sunday brunch at the Mantra almost opposite the Dusit should be checked out.

I've never really ventured past the Dolphin roundabout much after dark (I'm on curfew). Been to a couple of bars, I think 'Barracuda Bar' was one of them. Seems ok though, different vibe up there but worth checking out by all accounts and would make a change from the norm if you're hammering walking street every night. LaBaguette is a nice stop-off in the morning for a croissant and a coffee, although Crazy Daves is only a 10 minute motorbike ride away :o

I don’t have problems with lady boys. (just think a few to many in town now).

But a newbie might, if his not warned to take care by long term Residents.

Newbie take care at 2 am when pissed up. you might wake up in your hotel room

with all your money gone and a condom hanging out your bum. :D:D:D

Just like that, ouch

Nanlaew is right , there are probably half a dozen, nicer upscale places on soi 13

http://www.scandibar.com/hotel/sandy/ one example here

ladymen per se aren't the problem, it's ladymen on amphetamines (yaba)

sitting around talking trash, insulting people with 4-5 of their friends

(and, yes, they talk a lot of sh_t if you understand what they say)

particularly ladymen with money problems, and they all have money probs

from the operations and drug use. just play with them at your own risk.
