I know the TG BKK-New York has gone , but yesterday I received an e-mail cancelling the DMK-Chiang Rai TG evening flight.

Inevitably ,the Suvarnibhumi, doesn't connect with our arrival from Amsterdam.

According to Thai London, they don't know why it was cancelled,it could be due load factors ,we will see if the CEI-DMK flight we have booked for July is also cancelled & we are offered Suvarnabhumi.

Fortunately Air Asia ,saved the day.

Has any other posters had TG flights cancelled recently ?

Anecdotally domestic loads are down significantly due to the downturn in the economy. TG have stated that they are looking at all routes and are making many adjustments in frequency. Most of the press coverage has been about the international routes affected and I haven't seen anything re: domestic routes.

not good news this people could be in trouble if a connecting flight home is cancelled.

Lucky my next trip is at Xmas so it should be a busy period which will mean they shouldnt be cancelling any flights then

On the one hand, it is good news to hear, that TG is capable of reacting to the rising problems within the industry. Another option, which used to be common with the charter-airlines in Europe, would be for different operators to consolidate low-occupancy flights together, but with two Bangkok airports, this is less-easy than it once was.

On the other hand, the reason I & many others use the more-expensive TG option, is because we have more confidence in them actually operating their published schedule.

So this short-term cost-cutting measure, if that's what it is, could backfire seriously, if carried too far.

Perhaps they might also reconsider the large list of 'free flyers', currently being paid-for by the regular passengers on Thai Airways, or perhaps not, TiT. :o

Xmas "busy" period - for what? It does not exist for Thais.

You need a lots of foreigners to come and make it busy.

Movin' right into the gap left by Thai Airlines...

Third line from bottom: SINGAPORE -- NEW YORK

Bottom line: Daily flights from 26 June 2008

What does Singapore Airlines know that Thai Airlines doesn't?

Where to find competent marketing analysts? :o

I know thai's do not celebrate xmas and it is a normal working day there.

Sorry for my ignorance on thailand being busy I was only speaking from my personal experience, I have been to phuket for the last 3 years at xmas and last year when I booked my internal flights in July there were a few flights already sold out so my choice was limited and some hotels are also full well before the xmas period.

Also 2 years ago my thai girlfriend couldnt get a flight leaving phuket on Jan 2nd and had to fly back to Bkk a day before me (not that I minded I had a night out by myself)

Christmas is a busy time for flights as lots of westerner tourists come. Think about it, or maybe you don't want to think too much? Ha ha.

Missed that. :o Singapore direct from JFK, wonder if TG sold their flight route to Sing?

SQ has been flying their New York to Singapore non-stop route for longer than THAI has operated their non-stop to JFK.

EDIT: I see that Captain Chaos has already made pretty much the same point in the other TG JFK flight thread. My apologies for the duplication.

Indeed. The EWR-SIN nonstop has been around since June 2004. The new hoopla has to do with the fact that SQ yanked out all the executive economy seats and it is now a business class ONLY flight. (There was a lot of wailing and moaning about that change as well.) SQ is banking on its ability to fill a daily business class only flight between Singapore and NYC. Does anyone really believe that Thai Air would have been able to consistently fill a business class only flight between NYC and BKK?

I LOVED the JFK-BKK nonstop, but it certainly appears to be a reasonable business decision.
