Corrupt thai airways

my personal experience with TG between BKK and the gulf is that it is crap and would always choose an alternative if available. Some of this has to do with passengers on these routes...on at least three occasions there were large groups of young arab men many of whom were drunk and were causing minor disturbances on the aircraft. As anyone knows who has lived in gulf countries as soon as you land you are on arab soil and any complaint that was handled by local ground staff would implicate the complainer and the drunken slobs would simply waltz away...not much that the cabin crew from any airline can do about that.

Be advised that Emirates and TG have an arrangement such that you may expect an Emirates flight to Dubai but end up on TG instead. TG aircraft are uncomfortable and dirty. The cabin crew appear to do the best they can under the circumstances

<font color='#000000'>must say i'm a little surprised by all the complaints about thai.. they're certainly not the best airline in the world, (yes singapore and emirates are way better) but compared to most european and u.s. airlines, service is better.</font>

How can you possibly think that Singapore airline is better? The last 4 - 5 times I have flown SQ I have had at least one major problem per flight:

1) The stewardess spends all her time chatting to the hunk in the seat infront.

2) They forgot to serve me food.

3) The aircon was leaking water. The poor s##ker in the seat got tons of cold water in his lap and was told not to get up as it was during take-off.

4) The Kris-world in-flight entertainment system didn't work.

5) Their flights are full of mainland chinese package-tour tourists. spitting, harking, talking loudly, using mobile phones during landing, and never get reprimanded by the SQ staff.

6) The stewardesses are so incincere that it cries to high heavens. They only smile because they have learned it on charm-school, not because they are friendly.

And regarding better service for the light-skinned passengers. My ex girlfriend (mixed indian-malay) worked as stewardess in Singapore Airlines, but had to resign because she was being treated as second class by the chinese crew members.

Comparing SQ and TG, I prefer TG anytime. However, I agree, their food is completely ineddible.

I actually got the same information: the waiters and waitresses of Thai International don't allways behave pleasant (or professional) towards Thai ladies accompagnied by westerners.

Some of them (certainly not all) seem to behave themselves as many Thai employees of foreign embassies do. It is the kind of behaviour which could lead to the suggestion that they see a potential prostitute in almost every Thai lady who is together with a foreigner. Unless of course, these ladies wear the same middle class attributes (Rolexes seem to be a good start) and preferable have a light skin.

I think that this lack of professionalism partly is caused by the reasons mentioned by Bob Chittie and Markt.

The wrong people got on the wrong places and once there it was too late to correct them.

And I am not going to pack my bags Dr. Ping-Pong. Together with Thai I enjoy the beauty and blessings of this country and together with Thai I think that Thailand, nor any other country in the world is perfect, with other words open for improvement. And I am sure that also the service of Thai International will improve. Paris and Rome weren't built in one day either.

You should realise Dr. Ping-Pong that Thailand is a free country. I think that the denial of that would hurt more Thai people, than agreeing with their complaints about certain aspects of the management of the national carrier.

So please watch your words, these lines can be red by free Thai nationals as well and as you should know, they don't need foreigners to draw up the lines for them.

First, I'm the black sheep of the family, but have known to have swung in several directions. Made a lot of money then none...

Second, I'd prefer the Thai flight attendants anyday over the cows in United or any other corn fed airline. It is so rare to meet a non-polite Thai flight attendant. What do you want a bj?

Third, if you want to be treated better, pay for a frickin' business class ticket. Don't excpet a bj by the way. Ask your bar-girl wife.

Last, if you want a real sob story, look to JAL. The girls have to suffer the melted wax on the the nipple treatment and a bukkake facial before even seeing a bag of kaki mochi.

It's a dog eat pussy world up there.

EVOL!

PS: fly Air Asia if you want cheap; and you can't complain about the service 'cause there ain't none.

The best compliment that I can offer about THAI is that they are average.

On short haul flights around the region THAI will suffice but not for long haul.

The food is stodgy.

Items on the wine list should be available.

They should have sparkling water - not cheap soda.

Service is average.

The seats are antique. In business class I should not have to put my seat upright because the people in the row behind are eating. If I have had a long day and want to sleep that should be possible.

They do not answer comment letters sent in.

On my recent trip to Melbourne I flew with Singapore Airlines.

Comfortable seats.

Good food and wine.

SIA also have a good safety record.

Other airlines that I would recommend are:

QATAR, Gulf Air, Emirates, Cathay Pacific

It took a little longer, but it was worth it.

It will be interesting to see how the new LOW COST airlines fit in the picture.

<font color='#000000'>Yes, I realize this is Thailand. This is the way things work. But in my opinion if TG insists on this policy of 'big connections and big money equals a job' then they should never even hold open interviews.

i have a number of Thai friends who won't fly TG anymore because they feel that they are almost discriminated against by their hi-so counterparts who are only interested in giving service to farang. For myself, personally, I will not fly TG again either. I would prefer to fly with an airline who hires based on merit and talent rather than last name.<font>

I'm afraid you'll be doing a lot of riding on the bus here on Thailand if you want to ride airlines in which stewardesses are selected through a completely open and fully transparent process.

In Thailand many girls want to become stewardesses- it's regarded as an elite job whereby only the well-connected and attractive can get the position. Even when I went to graduate school in the US some of my Thai female counterparts told me they'd love to go back to Thailand and become stewardesses. I was incredulous- there they are spending tends of thousands of dollars at a top business school and they want to serve up cocktails in economy???

So the competition for the most prestigious airline, Thai, is extremely fierce. Most applicants are not 'hiso'- they are upper middle class, the daughters of business owners and such. You wouldn't catch 'hiso' working in a day-job (unless she has specifically told everyone it's a hobby) as it's beneath them.

So just like with any bidding process there's a level of corruption and connections required to get the job. Not just with Thai, but *all* locally-based airlines. A friend of mine is looking to work just for the ground-crew of one airline and is flirting (possibly sleeping with) the manager in hopes of landing the position.

Welcome to Thailand!

It's not just Thais traveling in economy who complain about the service. I know an extremely wealthy family here in Thailand- they complained to me that Thais in general don't get treated as well as foreigners on Thai. And even them, with their famous last name, couldn't get special treatment that they're sure foreigners can using their company's name as leverage. :o:D

Then in the airport, there he was waiting for his luggage to come rolling out, so I thanked him for the autographs and got some pictures. Talked for awhile with him as luckily the bags took about 20 minutes to come out, so thank you Thai Airways for being slow in that department. Then after going through customs the press attacked him.</font>

I've also met Paradorn- he showed up (along with gf Tata at the time) at a party I was attending at someone's home. The hostess introduced me to him so I wound up sitting next to him and chatting to him for about an hour or so. He struck me as being very very down to Earth- not one iota of pride or unwillingness to talk to the unwashed masses. At the time he told us his biggest goal was to improve his first serve- then we chatted about non-Tennis stuff. Overall, a really great guy. Then there was Tata... :o:D

I am white with Thai Isaan wife, and we have traveled back and forth between LOS and europe for the last 8 years and I must say that on the whole Thai has been my favorite Airline.

I have been in both economy and Biz class, had the most upgrades from Thai more than any other airline and found the economy class stewards as good and polite as Air france Biz class stewards.

Here is a complaint letter I had to fax to Air France as they are complete &lt;deleted&gt;. By the way I had to fax it as they have no means of email contact on their website, keeps compalints down as it is harder to contact them about it.

Dear Sir/Madam

My name is xxxx xxxx, my RED Frequence Plus number is xxxxxxxxxx if you look on your computer system you will find all my details.

I am writing to complain about the deplorable service I have received from Air France this week and its continuing decline in service over the years that I have flown with you.

I have been flying with AF since 1996 and though I have come to expect the internationally recognised poor standard of treatment from your rude cabin staff, especially with me being English and clearly a 3rd class citizen in their eyes, this last weeks action, or lack of action has driven me to write.

But first a quote, "a guaranteed seat on the long haul flight of your choice, even if it is fully booked"

I took this quote from the letter that came with the Red Frequence Plus baggage tags you people sent me last week, coincidence is that you should quote on the subject that I about to write about.

I work for xxxxxxx xxxxxx xxx in, Nigeria and was due to depart on Friday the 29ths flight to Paris and connect with the AF flight onto Bangkok the following day. Now I normally don't get too upset about the infrequency of this particular flight turning up on time, as it rarely does turn up when it is supposed to, regularly causing me to have to stay an extra day in that ###### hole Nigeria. This I just accept as 'NFAF' which for me means 'Normal for Air France'. But this time your people in Port Harcourt or Lagos, who ever has the controlling hand there, beat the normal poor service by far by giving away my pre booked seat.

Because of this I was forced to miss an appointment I had in Paris, which by the way was an important client meeting.

This is only the last thing in a list of 'NFAF' situations, previously I was refused entry to a flight from Bkk to CDG that I arrived 15 minutes late for, (not my fault, the domestic flight was late) I was given no consideration AND I was carrying only hand baggage! I had to purchase a Thai Airways ticket (who by the way were astonished to hear that you close your flights 1 hour before departure time, Thai closes 30 minutes before departure time) cash on the spot and was treated with the utmost consideration and even escorted to the plane by the flight superintendent. Decent service wouldn't you say? I will not write down all the NFAF dealings I have had over the years as there are far too many to mention.

Now I realise that this complaint will fall on deaf ears, and nothing will result from it, but I just want you people to know that I am at the last point of my using your company for my long haul flights, the unreliability of your service is becoming too reliable isn't it! I can almost count on your flights to Port Harcourt being delayed, and as a VERY frequent flier with you I would appreciate some form of compensation for the continually bad service I receive

Here is an old English phrase for you.... 'PULL YOUR SOCKS UP,... or you may lose a customer!

Yours defeated

xxxx xxxx

PS I see you have made it as hard as possible for anyone to email any complaints in to you folk, no email addresses anywhere on your web site, well done! Must make you all proud to receive so few complaints. (By email) I am sure you get your fair share by regular mail though.

I have sent this to the UK division too as I don’t believe the French understand our English sense of Irony.

Because of this complaint they gave me my very own contact in AF in Bangkok, she is very nice and I get decent customer service. By the way they compensated me with 2 biz class upgrades for the delayed flight. That was nice too.

I still prefere to fly Thai, but so long as the Frogs treat me well I will carry on flying Frog.

Basher :o
