tartempion Posted June 29, 2008 Posted June 29, 2008 7 years ago my cholesterol level was at 240. Was recommended to take Lipitor 10mg daily and reduce milk, red meat, and egg products. Living in Thailand that was not very difficult, not much of cheese and beef temptations here although the kao pad always has a baked egg in there, so I rarely eat kao pad. One year later cholesterol level around 170 and HDL and LDH within the norm. 5 years ago my doctor increased Lipitor to 20mg whilst cholesterol remains around 170. Last January I spent the month in hotels and had "American" breakfast almost daily, and was craving for omelettes etc. I have eaten lots of eggs since (not daily but several times/week, way more than the 2 eggs/recommended by dieticians) Had a cholesterol test done last may and surprisingly am at 150 now, never been that low. Eating more eggs is the only change in diet I can account for. So I really wonder what they say about eggs (specially yolk) and cholesterol. Is it possible my cholesterol level is LOWER because I eat MORE eggs???? That would be contrary to what the experts say?

Nutritionists insist that eggs don't raise your cholesterol because it's "dietary." The things that do raise your cholesterol are processed through your liver. Still, these nutritionists say to limit egg yokes per week to a certain amount. If I want fast metabolizing protein from egg white, I hard-boil 8 eggs, de-yoke 6 of them. For you, you probably eat foods that include a yoke, in omelets, scrambles, poached eggs, etc.

Yes told in Oz cholesterol up to 7 something put onto some medication called Crestor read about this recently and was not impressed so ceased the medication. I watch what i eat to a certain degree and try to stay away from dairy products and eat more fish. What interested me was your 240 - recently tested here scored 277 Dr says watch diet - Ok Lipitor who recommended it and it seems to do the trick for you anyway where to obtain?
tartempion Posted June 30, 2008 Author Posted June 30, 2008 Who recommended Lipitor? My cardilogist.... I get them from Europe but think Lipitor is available in LOS I understand cholesterol level should be below 190, but 40% in Western world are above this
BEENTHEREDONETHAT Posted June 30, 2008 Posted June 30, 2008 Google lipitor before you try it. It has some very nasty side effects. You can get it in LOS but check it out first.
jimmym40 Posted July 1, 2008 Posted July 1, 2008 I've had high cols for 5-6 yrs. I'm taking 40 mg of ZOCOR a day, started with 20 mg, but not enough. Has worked great, no side effects for me at all. Cols down from 237 to the 170s. I eat eggs about twice a week here in LOS and get checked every six months. Hardly any change in the last 4 years. IMO I dont think eating eggs has that much effect of cols levels - but everyone is different.
Galong Posted July 1, 2008 Posted July 1, 2008 Don't buy into the cholesterol myth. Here's a fair article.http://www.askmen.com/sports/foodcourt_60/...ating_well.html Good link Mahtin and it falls in line with everything I've read about the true problems with cholesterol. Clipped from the article: Evidence showing that eating a lot of dietary cholesterol doesn't increase blood cholesterol was discovered during a statistical analysis conducted over 25 years by Dr. Wanda Howell and colleagues at the University of Arizona. The study revealed that people who consume two eggs each day with low-fat diets do not show signs of increased blood cholesterol levels. Furthermore, the body produces cholesterol... upwards of 2/3rds of the cholesterol in your body was made by your body. Serum cholesterol is affected by other factors and dietary cholesterol intake has little effect on the levels. Dr. Galong
