English Classes. Some Advice Please.

Featured Replies

Hello there,

I'm going to Isan and have been roped into giving a group of medical workers (doctors and the like I think) daily english lessons for 2 weeks. Thank God it's not until October as I find it a little daunting but would also like to prepare so i can give as quality lessons as I can manage. To tell you the truth my spelling isn't fantastic or my grammer but I did get an A level at English so at one time it wasn't that bad.

I would just love any advice or tips onhow to structure lessons, what to cover, maybe a few homework topics.

Apparently these people helped in the tsuenami and met many English speaking volunteers which made them want to learn more as I think their English is very basic.

I don't want to let them but just as important myself down.

Your desire to help is admirable. I guess you are doing it for free and illegally. It is unlikely that they are medical doctors- - maybe nurses, medical technicians. If you do not know how to teach English, there is too much to tell you. You could take a TEFL course, but that costs about 45,000 baht, and even that would not teach you medical terms. Maybe somebody has another idea.

That was the first thing I asked about and it isn't medical terms it's just general stuff that i may think is useful. I didn't think it was illegal if you did it on a volunteer basis. These people (i believe there are about 10 but will also ask if anyone else wants to attend) who have a doctor as their boss work in what i took to be some sort of clinic. I'm not going to do a TEFL, i'm sure what ever i teach will be appreciated but as i've never done anything like that i just wanted some sort of practical advice and structure to what i might be doing.
