The beach clean up activity was arranged at the tourist beach of Ao Nang bay with Krabi Governor Siwa Sirisaowaluk leading the group. The participants helped collect garbage along the 800 metre long beach. Beach aerobic dances were also put on to entertain and encourage people to exercise.

According to the Tourism Authority of Thailand, the Pollution Control Department recently introduced star-ratings for beaches around Thailand. Only 2 beaches were rated with Excellent Environmental Quality (five-star rating): Bileh Beach in Krabi province and Koh Lidi (Lidi island) in Satun province. Several beaches nationwide with Good Environmental Quality (four-star rating) included Krabi’s Losaama, Laem Thong, Koh Pai, Laem Tanot, Ngai, and Koh Rok beaches.

If you take a look at Ao Nang Beach and Nopparat Thara at the moment, they are a bloody disgrace. The local council have plenty of tractors, why not get the right attachments and rake the crap out of the sand each morning, like they do in other countries. But no, the council spends more time on fancy meetings and new cars.

...... and the Governor should also have a look at the longtailboat drivers. Everytime they do oil change at Noppharat pier, they let the old engine oil into the water and also draw the empty oil tank in the sea. That is whay part of that area/beach is black :o

Government offices, local government bodies, temples, mosques in provincial or districts levels are entitled and invited to participate in a coastal program held by the Krabi authorities under the scheme ‘Keep Krabi Clean and Tidy’. The program is initiated by the Governor Siwa Sirissaowalak who hopes to boost and raise awareness for local government officials, and the general public and residents of Krabi to keep their premises, in front of their property, and public places, clean and tidy in serving the province’s policy of a tourist destination. The result would be announced and presented on December 5th, which is HM the King’s Birthday. Interested parties or organizations can get more details from the provincial Community Development office or any district offices in Krabi.
