Public Parks

I went to the park this morning. Yet again the place was full of hand wagglers. NO, I'm not talking about pervs lurking behind bushes. I am also not talking about the synchronised chinks with their pieces of PVC piping.

I'm talking about people who don sports gear, drive to the park and stand there waggling their hands. As far as I know there is no cardiovascular benefit to be derived from this activity. It's so popular. Everyone's at it. The old, the young, the fat, the thin, all there waggling for an Olympic medal.

There are variations on this theme. The leg jiggle. This is not to be confused with the knee trembler. Some experienced practitioners have it off pat so they are able to hand waggle and leg jiggle simultaneously. Another one is sub-walking pace jogging. And, yes, you guessed it, this can also be combined with hand waggling.

Finally, I have observed that hand waggling is location-specific. It is only to be done at the park. Despite years of observing Thais in different habitats, the home, the office, the discotheque, shops, garages, bus stations, even toilets, I have never witnessed this activity in any other site. I theorise a cultural taboo prevents its appearance elsewhere.

Mr. Briggsy. It's time to take your medication. Are you so uptight you cannot let other people live their lives. As a guest in a foreign country you may want to modify your thinking and lifestyle so as to reduce stress in your life. Read a book, find a girl or boyfriend, try to do something relaxing with your mind. It appears going to the park is not cutting it. Stress kills. Unhappiness causes wrinkles. Obsessing on the harmless activities of others may be the beginning of mental illness. I think I read somewhere Bumrungrad is having a promotion in their Psychological Services Department next week. :o

Cheers!

Re mental illness, I'm there already.
