Another 35% voters has choosen earning of 100K-150K baht/month?

Are their expectation realstic? Or is that combined earning from

overseas business or investment? I mean can 35% of expats in

get this kind of salary a month just from Los alone?

79 votes so far only? Isn't this forum said to have 15,000 members?

Pumping for More votes please. Thanks

yes you can live on 35-50,000 baht per month here, been there done that.

but is that really a life?

for me bangkok is my base and i like to travel around the region as much as possible, to enjoy its delights.

so got myself a portable business, now making over $15,000 per month, is that vulgair, ###### no...... the point is what is enough for one may not be enough for another!

all i want is a life! :D

I figure I can live on 40,000 a month in Nakhonsawan. But I'm not going to retire from my present job and move their yet...cause I WANT 100,000 for my budget.

Thanks to Papa, DJ_Tom and Random Chances.

I can say almost 80% people have the same daily basic needs, rest

is luxery living. And these can be satisfied with 60,000 Baht maximum

Imagine, 2000 Baht a day. Would you spend that much EVERY SINGLE day.

would you go outside just everyday to spend money? Difinitly answer is: "NO"

If you are working you will have less time to spend money, if you are free

you will spend more money. Afterall, you will not go to Bars, dicsos..after

spending some years in thailand, you will find cheaper places, with same

qualities to stay, less farang foods, sticking to one girl if Normal TG, you

would be working probably, ...You will even afford good schooling for such

schools

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Member "madsere":

There are even much cheaper alternatives, International School of Pattaya (ISP) around 300,000/year, Wuttichot and Satit Siriwhatever around 100,000/year.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

I mean anything above 60,000 Baht/month is more for self satisfaction and

go toward saving or luxery spending. It's actully good to have more & afford

better things, but not affording more, doesn't mean you shouldn't be living in Los

I don't understand why some people have such a need to make such

exaggerations.

no exaggeration at all, even though i get around i still work 12-15 hours a day!

yes it took me 3 years to get there, but internet, consulting and trading got me there! try it you just need to begin somewhere.

btw i like to slow down soon and enjoy the delights here more!

you want a tip, try day trading, my swiss mate makes +/- $2-3,000 a week and lives in phuket! compared that with european living cost that's peanuts! :D

I am a daytrader, and i can tell you that to make $8k-$12k a month,

you need to be trading with at (be it your equity or margined money)

least $200K=8 Million Baht, and that requires a hhhellll of confident

in your method.

I Doubt someone trading this large, would be Daytrading from pukhet,

as there isn't as reliable, fast DSL connectionas Bkk which required for

day trading business.

With daytrading you have to be glued to the computer, and how come

don't let opportunities get away from you? Would you give little details

about Trading style like timeframes, holding periods, #trades per day,

Profit target and stop losses?

How exactly do you want to live?

Quite a few farang people live in Thailand with less than 20,000 Baht/month.

Quite a few expatriates live with more than 200,000 Baht/month.

How much do YOU need?

I really don't know yet. I will come to know when i live in thailand

permanently, not as a toursit. I am comparing earning to where

i live today.

Frankly, i wouldn't be spending more than 60-75,000Baht a month

maximum, but don't understand why do i need to make not less

than 125,000 Baht a month? May be this has to do somthing with

returning home someday

I think you'll do more than fine with 60 to 75,000 Baht a month.

Except of course, if a girl takes 99% of it... :o:D

Hi there,

I live in Phuket which is one of the more expensive places to live in LOS.

I work offshore and am saving for my eventual retirement. I have my own house, a car, a wife and no children.

I have spent a lot of time working out how much I need per month so that I know how much I need to save to get this amount in interest.

I have come up with the minimum amount of 65,000 Bht per month.

10,000 Bht per month is for annual fixed costs, ie. medical insurance, car insurance, house insurance and UBC.

15,000 Bht per month for bills, ie. telephone, electricity, visa run, petrol, food and items to maintain house.

This leaves 40,000 Bht (20,000 Bht each for missus and me) to spend as we like.

You can really only guarantee a 5% per annum (safe) return on your investment (anything more is a bonus).

Therefore I need to save US$390,000, call it US$400,000 in working assets to retire. This does not include house and toys in LOS.

If you have children, then it's bunches more.

Very good question.

Firstly, don't think we will ever see US$=25 bht again. According to the Economist's Bic Mac PPP survey which shows what currencies are undervalued/overvalued against the dollar, the rate should be about 33.

There are still alternatives. Keep my savings in assets of different currencies is one option. Also, the sum of $400,000 will supply me with 100% of my living expences. When I die, there will still be $400,000. As you get into your mid fifties, you can start spending some of the principle. No good being the richest man in the grave-yard!

Alternatively, you could bring hard currency into Thailand and buy properties that are rentable.

Do you have any ideas?

My money is invested in Oz. There is still the chance of currency fluctuations effecting my income, but the exchange will need to be about 1AUD = 20 Baht before it would mean that I couldn't get by and would have to consider leaving or working...

An interesting web site that shows you how long your money can be expected to last is here.. But it doesn't take into account exchange rates.
