Wordpress Blog

Featured Replies

Hi

Last week I started a WordPress blog as I was recently diagnosed as diabetic and I wanted to track my blood sugar levels together with what I eat and drink so that I can print it out to show my doctor at my next appointment on Tuesday. It's convenient to do it this way as my uncle who is also diabetic (for many years) and in the UK can read the blog and see what I've been eating/drinking and throw me advise as he sees fit.

The problem is that WordPress sorts the posts in descending order according to the post date entry (so that my first entry is at the bottom). Obviously when I print it out it won't make too easy reading for the doc.

Is there a way to swap the order into ascending date order?

I've googled and searched the help but I can't see how to do it. Is it related to the theme I'm using?

Thanks

Mick

Take a look at this, may help.

Hi Mick, just talked to my sister's boyfriend who blogs on WP. He suggests that there are a couple of plugins that you might try:

http: //moshublog.com/2007/10/30/custom-query-string-reloaded-for-wordpress-23-with-tag-support/

http: //justinblanton.com/projects/smartarchives/

If these don't work or you don't come up with a solution he said he'd be willing to write you a query you could use

Thank you both for your replies.

The links refer to uploading PHP to a folder "wp-content/plugins". I've searched the help forum and the upgrade forum and I can't see any reference to do this. They only seem to allow you to upload media type files or .doc etc.

Sorry to be a pain, but any idea how I can upload either of the php files?

Thanks again

Mick

I think you have to do this manually, so using either a FTP progam or through the server management {such as cPanel} assuming you are hosting your own blog.

If you're using a hosted blog you may not have access to this function depending on the policies of the host.

Thanks for the pointer Traveller.

I'm not hosting the blog it's just a free blog from WordPress.

I'll look into how to set up the blog on my web server (although we use ASP and the WP stuff seems to be PHP so maybe I can't do it).

If you are running a web server, adding PHP shouldn't be awfully difficult. If you are running IIS6 or IIS7 make sure you load the thread save version of PHP and set it up to run fastcgi instead of ISAPI, you'll love the speed advantages.

Some blog hosters allow plug-ins but they may not 'shout about it'. Should check with them first before moving things around. Who's the hoster?

sjaak - The server is for our business so I don't think that I'll make any changes - don't want to upset the apple cart so to speak!

Traveller - it's just on the wordpress site itself (mydomain.wordpress.com)

I've fired off an email to their support staff to see if they have a solution for cheap people like me who are only using their free service.

Mick

Never used wordpress as a host, so don't know if they will support loading plugins using FTP.

I appreciate your concern about the webserver, even though loading PHP only for a subsite (your blog) is easy, and won't have an influence on your business web server stuff.
