DAAD are marching towards Makawan bridge, escorted by police in front. :o

Tony, is that on TV?

Wife says it was announced on PAD stage, they have scouts watching Sanam Luang.

Apparently, the DAAD crowd at Sanam Luang consists of a lot of older people who were apparently drawn there by being told they were invited to a ceremony related to something I can't mention on here. All are accompanied by 100 motorcycles or so.

This is not the case at the PAD rally. As far as I know, all the PAD protesters are legit and are not being paid to be there.

Kurt, you seem to have ignored a number of reports in this thread that clearly show that SOME protesters are being paid, transported, and fed.

Corruption is king at nearly every level of society here.

How true at many levels and be thankful they seldom teach propositional logic in the schools anymore. :D

How true that is. By the way has anyone seen the classic film on DVD/VDO (in English) Wizard of Oz for sale here? I just love that song..."We're off to see the Wizard, the wonderful wizard of Oz...because, because, because, because, Becuase !! BECAUSE of the wonderful things he does.." But I haven't been able to find it though - I've heard it may be available at Fortune Town - no luck so far. I'm determined to show it to my family - sure you might understand. Anyway, one can keep looking - just like Dorothy.. :o (also the Grinch that stole xmas would be good..)

So it was the yellow brick road that inspired the PAD fashion statement! But I daresay we must look towards our British friends for the inspiration that is currently motivating our Thai friends as events become curiouser and curiouser:

"Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?"

"That depends a good deal on where you want to get to," said the Cat.

"I don't much care where –" said Alice.

"Then it doesn't matter which way you go," said the Cat.

"– so long as I get somewhere," Alice added as an explanation.

"Oh, you're sure to do that," said the Cat, "if you only walk long enough."

:D)--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (:D @ 2008-09-02 01:14:08) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->NBT reporting that DAAD is now only 100m from Makawan where the PAD is holding their rally.

Police expecting clashes.

That s where PAD was mainly, now it s a secondary location.

The main stage is at Government House.

Yup, the violent amateur imitators are on tv. :o

Sticks in hand.

And who by chance is giving them full coverage?

NBT. :D

Already reports of gunfire, and about 20 people injured, even though they are still apparently 100 meters apart.

Did not see that.

Who's shooting at who?

Only drunken yobs walking with sticks wearing helmets, 2 motorcyclists appear drunk and weaving.

This is a real mob, walking the street with protective gear and weapons in hand at 1:37 am....

Same ol' Daad.

What is the real intention here, in concert with the police mocking getting gassed and shot at? :o

Or do they really intend on reaching the PAD?

Looks like pure provocation from DAAD walking to the PAD at Makkhawan, in concert with the police.

DAAD look totally disorganized and jumpy, full of yaba or Red Bull.

DAAD all look like men in the same age group, hired thugs.

Here comes Samak's state of emergency. Then they'll clean up the other rally.

Couldn't be clearer.

NBT called the police whom is in charge of holding back the DAAD 5mins before the clash.

Police was saying on the phone that they have tried their best but couldn't hold back the DAAD.

5mins after the live interview by phone...the crash started.

Too well staged I would say :o

I ll bet the police are in on it and the whole thing is a setup.

DAAD is trying to set it's guys in formation and they look like schoolchildren trying to get organised. :o

Even an old man pushing food cart is following, only in Thailand.

This bunch look more like they were thirsty. :o

Definitely hired thugs.

May it be yet another DAAD miserable flop like everything else they touch.

Not clear which side fired the gunshots...

I have no idea what the ultimate intention is - but a riot is not what we need.

And yes, I have to agree that the DAAD is the side initiating the provocation.

If you have any kind of civil unrest and the potential of clashes among people of differing view points, it seems like a great time to give the police some encouragement and backing. It seems very counter productive to choose that time to restrict the police from using force to prevent aggression.

What's on TV now is a repeat of the early clash - DAAD supporters were advancing, but the PAD supporters then rushed forward.

Still not enough information on injuries but they have named 4 nearby hospitals as receiving the injured.

The issue with the police at the moment is that they are heavily outnumbered - you would think that, knowing the intentions of the DAAD which was announced at midnight, they would've sent reinforcements quickly...

BTW, if you can get it, try TNN - they are using picture-in-picture to try and show what's being shown on various other channels as well.

Looking at the video, no one can deny that when DAAD just broke the police line it was all a setup...so obvious, no resistance whatsoever, like a ballet almost. My guess is they want to provoke emergency law. Some foreigners present, we'll get pictures.

All of this in perfect timing with the new Chief of police who said today "NO BATONS! SHIELDS ONLY!" :o

Channel three switches from 1 screen to a 4 split.

Well...this time round, when it comes to dealing with DADD whom were known to be armed & aggressive, the police weren't allowed to be armed with any weapon other than a shield.

When to comes to deal with PAD whom openly widely known to be unarmed and non-violent, they were armed with rifles & rubber bullets, smoke grenade launchers, batons, etc.

Well, I am pretty sure they would not be using tear gas again. They learned their lesson on that earlier in the week.

Exactly what this dead-end govt. wants, the emergency law or the army to step in and cry coup! Coup! Coup!

I think it was mentioned on PAD stage that the DAAD mob was given alcohool and 500 baht at SAnam Luang, 2 women hurt only, I could be wrong, wife snoring heavily. :o

Looking at he police with shields only, I just can't believe there isn't a collaboration there with DAAD and the govt.

Just what i expexted, but was hoping would not happen, when the Samak/Thaskin alliance started paying people to start trouble against the PAD. At least one PAD member was shot and taken to hospital with multiple gunshot wounds.

Drunken and stoned thugs, with the help of their police buddies, attacking a peaceful demonstration. There is your Samak democracy in action again.

This is sad. The attackers belong in rehab, not on the street, getting paid to start trouble. What a truly evil government, setting this all up.

I hope Samak and his croneys will fall hard for this

NBT showing video - believe it or not it's not as biased as you think, Tony.

The video clearly shows DAAD protesters opening up the barricades - and walking right through the police, who did not even attempt to stop them. They weren't armed with batons as per orders, but you think they could've at least tried to use their riot shields as an additional barricade?

In this particular case, Tony, I'd have to say that your "theory" about the coincidence of the police order for shields only has to be seriously considered.
