Thousands of Police Are Raiding Makawan Rally Site

It's been reported that the police have begun a raid at the Makawan rally site. Panic reigned while police used their batons to drive out the protesters.

NBT Reporter Adamant Tear Gas Was Not Used

Although PAD protesters claimed tear gas was used to drive out the protesters from the Makawan rally site, an NBT reporter is adamant no tear gas was used during the raid.

The reporters explained that NBT crew on the field at Makawan had wet towels prepared for the possible use of tear gas at the rally site.

But he insists the 'gas' that was sprayed was not tear gas. 06.gif

Maybe it was, but considering that looking at the TV none of the police were wearing gas masks it wouldn't make much sense to use tear gas would it.

Thai police? Sense? ... :D not much would surprise me... :o

as I said ... not much surprises me with the Thai police....

You are a unhappy person you like noboby you do not like Thaksin Samak or Sondhi or even Bush. I bet you do not like you mom or pop.

1. You are wrong, since I am a very happy person.

2. You're correct that I dislike the mentioned 4 people; they haven't been positive for this world.

3. My parents are both dead.

There is no need to drag my parents into your message; that's low and below the belt.

It shows you have no class, no style and no dignity and it also shows you're a miserable human being.

You can say about me whatever you want but I have NEVER dragged the parents of ANY member into a discussion.

That's sick.

While I'm at it - why don't thai people from both political divides protest with their corrupt parties, so that they are given

* A Health Service free of charge - (I'm not keen on the fact that my father in Law at the age of 71 still works so he can pay his hospital fees)

* Some form of pension scheme (see above).

Personally I think it is disgusting that elderly people are forced to work to buy their daily bread - and if they cannot tough luck! Shamefull!

To bad, this government only give lip service. Poor folks can only dream and wait Santa to give them a helping hand.

There was the 30 baht heath plan but that got canceled by the coup.

If somebody would provide the transportation I am sue that a lot of folks would show up to support the elected goverment. Since TRT came into power a lot of things have improved up here. Roads fixed, water systems that work and a lot more and that is why the people support the PPP and Samak and are still PO'ed about the coup and now the PAD. They would't vote for any of the old parties that never did a dam_n thing for them.

Not true.

My epileptic daughter received her 30 baht health plan certificate just this week.

Try again.

Okay but it still went away and then was brought back. But it is not the same as before.

Thai protesters launch attack on Bangkok police HQ

BANGKOK, Aug 29 (Reuters) - Protesters trying to overthrow Thailand's government launched an attack on Bangkok's police headquarters on Friday before being repulsed by what appeared to be teargas, a Reuters reporter at the scene said.

After the assault by around 2,000 people, protesters were seen vomiting, the reporter said.

Good ! :o

Will make them think twice, trying to do it again,

What's next after occupying Government House, storming Police stations, blocking airports......???

storming 4 and 5* hotels and throw tourists out of the windows ?

:D

Sondhi shows who he really is: An idiot and not a peaceful reformer. He's after POWER...over Thailand.... :D

LaoPo

I agree anlong with my wife and probably every other resident here in our small village. My wife has called him much worse than an idiot she puts the F word in front.

At the last election, would you say your village were supporters of the PPP?

Samak isnt that popular up country it is only the Thaisin brand that helps him. He has previously been extreemly rude to Isaan people.

On your other point of its the Isaan that elects them and BKK that removes them. This time a large base of the crowd unless chnged tonight was actually from places like Chonburi, Chachoengsao, Prachuab, Phechburi and Chumporn. That would be a first !:D

Samak seems really affected by this by the way. He seesm to know he is in a corner and doesnt know how to get out

At this point, I doubt anyone anywhere can differentiate between Samak and this PPP government.

I wonder which rock Surapong is hiding under?

If they cant differentaite between Samak and the PPP than he is surely going down.

Surapong made a really pathetic spedech this afternoon about how in a week the PAD anf the gobvernment would not have such big differences. I wonder if he has been prescribing himself all kinds of meds

On the PPP, the people's anger will subside. If we could have a national election tomorrow, then they would vote the PPP out, but in a few months, the PPP would win again.

Unless their is a direct appeal from the Palace, then I don't see any other alternative than a SoE. However, to do this, the military would have to act against the PAD, which has acted as a buffer against a return to power by Thaksin. While I have no doubt that Gen. Anupong would act strictly according to the law as he is honorable, there will be some that won't be in favor of this.

Anyway, it is all politics at that level.

BTW, I love your comment on Surapong.

According to the Post Anupong has rejected a call for a SoE even saying if signed the military wont suppor tit and asked Samak to either resign or disolve the house

If you read that report it says a lot of things that seem to be in conflict with each other, although the bottom line from that report seems to be that Gen. Anupong thinks the police can control the situation and there are several steps to go through before the military gets involved.

I think your earlier comment about Samak playing both sides once to often is correct.

The PR value of the picture of the policeman pointing a rifle at a protestor at point blank range is very high

Indeed it is...

Imageaspx333-1.jpg

The rifle is behind the persons head as you can see. The person is looking at the barrel from the side as it is pointed at something behind him. Nice try. :o

The rifle is there in the picture in the first place and I highly doubt the safety is on. There's no defending it by any stretch of the imagination.

another...

Imageaspxwww.jpg

Try taking over the Whitehouse and see if you dont get a weapon shoved up your nose.

Do these PAD people honestly think they should be allowed to take over government house without some resistance from the authorities?

They provoke violence and then cry they are victims of brutality.

Try as you may, there is no way that you can twist these photos to be a "rifle pointed point-blank in a protester's face" (Oh, crocodile tears!).

Firstly, the rifle is not being held in a firing position, it is actually shouldered, and as has been pointed out, it's pointed past the demonstrator's head - not at it!

Never mind though, truth is the last thing we should expect from these increasingly sad PADisters!

Australians stranded at Thai airports

Hundreds of Australian travellers have been left stranded in Thailand after authorities closed three airports due to protests.

The resort island of Phuket was the first airport to shut its doors, followed by Krabi and Hat Yai in the country's south as anti-government protests spread across the country.

More than 5,000 protesters invaded Phuket International Airport, storming its two runways and preventing passengers from going in or out, Agence France-Presse reported.

A Jetstar spokeswoman said Sydney-Phuket flight JQ27 departed Sydney at 1.30pm (AEST) before being diverted to Bangkok on Friday night.

She said all 274 passengers would be accommodated overnight.

"Depending on what happens in Phuket, should the airport be open, we will continue on to Phuket tomorrow morning," the spokeswoman told AAP.

She said the same aircraft was due to be used for an evening return flight between Phuket and Sydney.

"We're currently trying to contact all 265 passengers (in Phuket) to ask them to stay in their hotels pending the advice of the details of the return journey."

The low-cost carrier flies between Sydney and Phuket three times per week.

The airport protests came as thousands of activists laid siege to Bangkok's Government House for the fourth straight day, calling for Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej to resign.

At the last election, would you say your village were supporters of the PPP?

Yes along with the sub disrict, district

and just about all of Ubon.

Not true. Ubon (Khueang Nai area) includes a Democrat stronghold that never fell to TRT despite the leader appearing in person.

I did not say all of Ubon. I am awre that some areas voted otherwise but I am sure that is where most of the money was spent by the Old established parties.

Right - TRT didn't!?!

In fact, the Democrat was yellow-carded for dishing out t-shirts (caught on camera) and a rerun had to be held. Local sympathies went very much against the TRT man as it was felt a) that the filmed event was a setup and b ) it was very hypocritical since he was using exactly the same tactics.

You just said it yourself

They would't vote for any of the old parties that never did a dam_n thing for them.

The reason the Democrats remain so popular in the area is because they have delivered locally for decades - it's almost irrelevant that they belong to the Democrat Party though. Even after TRT/PPP, it's not really about parties, it's still about local personalities. TRT co-opted most of the right people. It's also worth remembering that Thaksin brazenly announced that areas that didn't vote for him would not receive any development budgets etc.

After their initial election TRT had a great chance to take a real step towards a much more genuine inclusive democracy. Very disappointing, another chance for political development wasted. And now we're left with this mess with little hope of greater democracy in sight.

The rifle is there in the picture in the first place and I highly doubt the safety is on. There's no defending it by any stretch of the imagination.

You are assuming here there is only one row of swaying protesters and no one behind to take a possible blast to the face or torso, there is also absolutely no pushing or shoving, what was I thinking? It's a still picture! :o

State of Emergency is not a solution by any means - they won't be able to enforce it.

When massive amounts of people take to the streets and shut down roads/airports/power stations (if it finally happens), the police and even the army won't be able to stop them.

>>>

Hammered, I don't buy the idea of a behind the curtains power struggle. The situation is completely out of control and no one can predict what the outcome would be and how it will play out. Thousands of people react to daily and even hourly developments, and even Sondhi himself has little control - he has to respond to the situtation just like anyone else.

"Behind the curtain" puppet masters must feel utterly helpless.

I'm not saying there are no attempts to manipulate the situation, just seriously doubt anyone's ability to do it.

The PR value of the picture of the policeman pointing a rifle at a protestor at point blank range is very high

Indeed it is...

No it isn't pointed directly at the man in the yellow shirt.

But it IS pointed at less than a meter distance at someone, just to the left and behind him.

And that is STILL point blank whether on or off his shoulder.

And your parsing of the subject doesn't diminish the image as excessive one iota.

Why is it that anyone anti-graft ridden corrupt puppet government is suddenly a PADster?

So you don't like PAD, that doesn't mean mean non-PAD people are not

ALSO fed up with Samak's puppet clique, and wouldn't be unhappy to see

the back side of this whole cabinet disappear into the mists of time for good.

Well all but the new foreign minister.

This is the end game for Thaksin's control of Thailand,

more than a death to democracy as you fear.

A new election, or a new coalition government and non-PPP PM.

And sooner than later.

As stated above it's up to Kuhn Samak to decide how smoothly

and which direction it goes. Which decision is the BEST FOR THAILAND,

and not his Thaksin approved Golden Parachute...

I hope his nerves are up to the decision right now.

They will come out of this better than before,

it's shame it had to happen with so much difficulty,

but it WAS AS INEVITABLE....as rainy season.
