Along the road from our house is one that has a large bulldog type dog in residence. He is large and fierce looking - but friendly and plays with my dogs when they get the chance during walks. One thing that I noticed on previous occasions is that the gate to 'his' house sometimes appears to be wet with some white foaming type liquid. It only appears in a few places and I assumed it was another dog scent marking or the owner pouring a cleaning agent on his own scent marks.

Last night I found out what it is.

When the local children are playing footbal outside, he wants to join in. He stands at the gate/door to the house and licks the fence/gate quickly & repeatedly. So much that it forms a white foam puddle.

When let loose he makes a bee-line for the ball (non-agressive) jumps on it and carries it off as a prize.

At other times when there is no football being played he ignores the fence - no licking.
