Crime Woman Injured in Late-Night Brawl on South Pattaya Street
Picture courtesy of SiamRath A 23-year-old woman was left injured in the early hours of 29 July, after allegedly being assaulted by two other women following a drunken confrontation on South Pattaya Road. Emergency services were called to the scene at around 03:00, after receiving reports of a street brawl outside a nightlife venue. Rescue workers from the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Foundation arrived to find Ms Mintra, 23, bleeding heavily from a head wound. She had a gash above her left eyebrow and blood streaming down her face. She was given first aid at the scene before being transferred to a local hospital for further treatment. According to the victim, she had been drinking heavily at a nearby bar with friends and was walking back after clinking glasses with another group when the incident occurred. Two women at a neighbouring table accused her of bumping into their bag without apologising. A verbal argument quickly escalated into violence, with Ms Mintra claiming she was attacked and beaten by the pair before bystanders intervened and called emergency services. Police from Pattaya City Police Station attended the scene and conducted preliminary inquiries. Officers advised Ms Mintra to file an official complaint so that legal proceedings could be initiated to identify and prosecute those responsible. An investigation is now underway, after she filed the complaint. Adapted by Asean Now from SiamRath 2025-07-30 -

A handwritten suicide note blaming her father over financial issues was recovered at the scene. At approximately 11:30, police at Khlong Luang Police Station were alerted to a shooting incident in Soi Khotchasarn 1/3, Moo 18, Khlong Nueng subdistrict. Investigators, led by Pol.Lt. Adisak Kochasak and Pol.Sub.Lt. Weera Sukchana, arrived at the single-storey house accompanied by local patrol officers, detectives and rescue personnel from Tha Khlong Municipality. Inside a bedroom, officers found Ms Patcharin, 44, lying on a bed with a gunshot wound above her left breast. A homemade firearm of unknown calibre was discovered beside her and taken into evidence. She was still alive and was swiftly transferred by municipal rescue workers to Thammasat University Hospital. A one-page handwritten note believed to have been written by the victim was discovered nearby. In the note, she expressed deep emotional distress and criticised her father over long-standing debt issues, suggesting financial hardship played a role in her actions. Her father, Mr Boonchuay 76, told police he was sitting outside the house and did not hear the gunshot. He stated that his daughter had not shown signs of conflict with her husband, who was not at home when the incident occurred. Pol.Lt. Adisak confirmed that photographs were taken as evidence, and further investigation is ongoing. The victim’s husband is expected to be questioned as part of the inquiry. Community Bangkok Upgrades Over 1,100 Kilometres of Pavements, Plans 340 More in 2026
Picture courtesy of Naewna. The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has completed upgrades to over 1,100 kilometres of footpaths across the city and plans to improve an additional 340 kilometres in 2026, focusing on major roads and key alleyways, especially those near public transport hubs. Mr. Wisanu Subsompon, Deputy Governor of Bangkok, said the 2026 budget would prioritise high-traffic areas in both inner and outer districts. Key improvements will target alleyways leading to BTS and MRT stations, ensuring pedestrian-friendly access within a one-kilometre radius of each station to facilitate smoother commuting. The standardised upgrades include levelling access points to buildings with adjacent pavements and using reinforced concrete with wire mesh surfacing to ensure durability and safety. According to the Department of Public Works (DPW), the city has followed the 2022 pavement standards guidelines. Since its implementation, 963 km of pavements have been upgraded from 2022 to 2024, with an additional 139 km completed in 2025, totalling 1,102 km. The 2026 plan to improve a further 340 km includes: • Full street-wide upgrades, • Enhancements around train stations, • Works along the BKK Trail pedestrian routes, • Restoration of pavements previously dug up by utility providers, • Spot repairs based on inspections and public complaints. Projects already underway or planned include: • Sukhumvit Soi 50 from Khlong Khang to Khlong Bang Chak (Khlong Toei District), • Kamphaeng Phet 6 Road from Bang Sue Tunnel to the Bangkok border (Chatuchak, Lak Si, and Don Mueang Districts), • Suvarnabhumi 4 Road from Lat Krabang Road to Khlong Nong Prue (Lat Krabang District), • Songprapa Road from Boonanan Market to Nawong Prachapatthana Road (Don Mueang District), • Somdet Phra Pinklao and Borommaratchachonnani Roads from Pinklao Bridge to the city limits (Bangkok Noi and Bang Phlat Districts), • Luang Phrot Phitthayaphat Road from Hua Takhe Station to Khlong Prawet Burirom (Lat Krabang District), • Bang Khun Thian-Chai Thale Road from Khlong Bang Khamoi to Khlong Yai Phian (Bang Khun Thian District). Construction is being closely monitored to ensure compliance with quality standards and contractual terms. The city says these improvements are part of its broader strategy to make Bangkok more walkable, accessible and connected for all residents. Adapted by Asean Now from Naewna 2025-07-30
